SPbPU Expands International Collaboration in Space Technologies
On March 25-27, representatives of Russian universities and innovative enterprises paid a working visit to the space town of Wenchang, Hainan Province, China, in order to expand cooperation in the field of space technologies: joint projects in launching small spacecrafts, receiving and transmitting data from satellites, using the ground station network by Chinese schoolchildren, and conducting joint educational programs. The Russian delegation was composed by the Innovation Promotion Foundation and included representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Roscosmos Corporation, SPbPU, Moscow State University, Geoscan, Aerospace Capital, ScanEx and others.
The cooperation of Polytechnic University with scientific clusters of China in the field of space technologies opens unique opportunities for us for mutual exchange of knowledge and experience, as well as for joint work on advanced projects in the space industry
, Dmitry Arseniev, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of SPbPU, emphasized the importance of the developing cooperation.
Within the framework of the visit, memorandums of cooperation were signed between the Innovation Promotion Foundation, Wenchang Space City Administration and the Aerospace Innovation Technology Research Center of Tsinghua University, as well as between the Innovation Promotion Foundation, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and the Aerospace Innovation Technology Research Center of Tsinghua University.
SPbPU was represented by Dmitry Tikhonov, vice-rector for additional and pre-university education. The Chinese side is very interested in our experience of working with schoolchildren in this area. Within the framework of the program ‘Planet Duty Officer’ of the Foundation for Assistance to Innovations, the Higher School of Applied Physics and Space Technologies of IE&T, the Laboratory “Industrial Systems of Stream Data Processing” of SAE SDE and the Center for Work with Entrants have been holding the Space Pi competition, for 4 times already, where more than 1000 schoolchildren participate annually, and the projects of children have already been launched on Polytech Universe satellites

The Chinese side presented the space campus development program in terms of infrastructure, scientific and educational projects, in particular, the project of Tsinghua University Lyceum, launch statistics and trade benefits for joint ventures were presented. Postgraduate students of SPbPU from the People’s Republic of China delivered their scientific reports. All participants noted the opportunities for further work and evaluated the visit positively.
