Special Olympics Bharat reaches out to Odisha with the support of their Partners

Bhubaneswar: Adapting to the need of the hour, steering in the direction towards the upliftment and care for the affected ones, SO Bharat, with the support of the Lions Clubs International and ArunaAbheyOswal Trust, under the Mission Inclusion Bharat, helped hundreds of SO Bharat athletes, coaches and families in distress, by providing COVID-19 hygiene essentials and more during the month of September 2020 in the state of Odisha, who had been affected by the cycloneAmphan amid Coronavirus Pandemic.

Mr Prakash Rath (Area Director, SO Bharat-Odisha) and his team of various coaches, athletes and youth leaders travelled to the districts of Puri and Khurda to help as many as 150 families affected by both the cyclone and the pandemic. Puri is currently at number four in terms of most number of COVID cases, while Khurda district was the most affected district in Odisha due to the cyclone. Health kits, basic grocery and first aid, including sanitizers and masks were distributed among the affected families. Moreover, the most noteworthy aspect of Special Olympics Bharat’s aim to revive the affected families is the fact that over the past 12 years, these two districts have been actively participating in Special Olympics sports.

Dr Aruna AbheyOswal, Trustee of Lions Clubs International and Chairperson of the ArunaAbheyOswal Trust, said, “Leadership and Motivation continue, spirits and services are not locked down”.
