New Delhi: Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) is organizing its annual International Convention in its 40th year at IIT Delhi from 5th -11th June, 2017. Like every year SPIC MACAY organizes International Convention to give exposure to the youth from all over the world about the cultural and traditional arts what India has preserved since such a long time. The Convention continues to lay out the tradition of SPIC MACAY’s previous conventions, which is being organized every year almost since the initiation of the movement.
The events and activities conducted throughout the year all over the country and abroad accumulate for that seven days and the convention becomes the zenith of the movement. SPIC MACAY organizes near about 7500 events in 300 towns in India and 50 abroad countries consisting of over 600 chapters in the last one year to bring the youth on the verge to our rich culture, heritage and lifestyle. The schedule of convention is composed in such a way that a person away from the outside world gets all the prospect of Indian culture and heritage i.e., from classical music and dance, folk arts, crafts, yoga, classic cinema screenings, intensives to shramdaan, holistic food, getting up early in the morning, heritage walks etc. The main abstraction of organizing the convention is to contrive the unique ashram-like atmosphere during summers to leave an impact on the generation.
The International Convention of SPIC MACAY is an annual congregation of more than 1500 people from all across the world, who spend one week in an environment which not only creates enthusiasm but has also helped many to learn the core values and ethics our culture has. It consists of concerts and intensive workshops of classical music, dance, crafts and other art forms by great artists over seven days. This resonates with SPIC MACAY’s core purpose – have every child experience the inspiration and mysticism embodied in Indian and World heritage. The vision is to reach every child by 2020.
A day at the convention starts with getting up at 3.30 am during the very special time called the ‘Brahma Mahurat’, doing various kinds of ‘yog’ or meditation for three hours with the gurus. Participants themselves choose from options like Naad Yog, Hath Yog, Dhrupad and Kutiyattam for this. This session goes on with three hour long intensive workshop daily at the convention. Also after the intensives the participants get the exposure and experience to watch the guru perform along with the talks by eminent personalities , movie screenings and concerts in the afternoon.
