SPJIMR’s PGPM adds Business Analytics as a new specialization

Mumbai: Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s SPJIMR (S P Jain Institute of Management & Research) has introduced a new and one of its kind specialization – Business Analytics, to its Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), aimed at professionals with more than 5 years of work experience. Business Analytics specialization will be offered in addition to the existing specializations of Finance, Information Management, Marketing and Operations & Supply Chain.

The Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) at SPJIMR is a one-year full-time residential management programme (preceded by 3 months of online learning), that enables candidates to accelerate their career.

“Business Analytics specialization has been launched with inputs from senior academicians and industry professionals in the analytics domain. The new specialization is designed to equip tomorrow’s managers with strong skills in analytics for decision making, which will enable them to shape the managerial practice in the coming years.” Said Professor Nilendra Singh Pawar, Chairperson, PGPM.

A student in Business Analytics at SPJIMR, besides focusing on analytics courses, will also study courses in the traditional functional areas. The focus of the analytics specialization would be to build deep, hands-on skills in analytics, including the ability to manage large data sets and writing code. These skills will help the students in pursuing careers in analytics or business consulting domains.

In the first six months, participants will develop fundamental understanding of all business domains including Economics, Finance, Marketing, Operations, Information Management, Organizational Behaviour and Communication. The participants will then dive into courses of the analytics domain including Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Predictive Analytics, Neural Networks, Stochastic Modelling, Natural Language Processing amongst others. Along with specializing in analytics courses, each participant will also be doing a minor in either Marketing, Finance, Information Management or Operations & Supply Chain.

Participants opting for Business Analytics specialization are expected to have strong inclination towards working with numbers and statistical tools. While a past experience in analytics and/or allied areas is preferred, it is not a mandatory criterion for participants to apply. Other requirements of eligibility remain the same as for other specializations i.e. having 5+ years of full-time work experience and a valid GMAT/CAT score. Last date for applying for the programme is August 15, 2021.
