Sports activity flagged as chief component of B2V to connect with youth

Jammu: Sports activity has been flagged as chief component of Back to Village-3 – the JKUT administration’s ongoing public – government interface campaign.
The underlying aim of the government is to connect and rope in the youth in the process and identify the latent sports talent in the rural areas- where most of Jammu and Kashmir lives.
In the run up, the visiting officers are hosting tournaments at their assigned Panchayats for local teams. Need not to mention that the events are receiving overwhelming response of the youth.
The idea behind the move is to revive the Sports culture which became a major causality during the decades’ long disturbance here. Besides hosting tournaments, the government representatives are also distributing sports kits to attract the young generation towards sports for their overall personality development and grooming their sports skills. The government’s intention to continue its focus on promotion of sports is also reflected in the fact that development of playfields is tipped as one of the main components of B2V developmental plan. Going a step further, for the current edition of B2V, the government has provided Rs 20 thousand to each Panchayat exclusively for spending on promotion of sports.
According to the reports pouring in, the sports activities are going on in all districts as was affirmed by the Secretary Youth Services & Sports, Sarmad Hafeez at the start of ‘Jan Abhiyan’. He had said that the Department is actively involved & different sporting activities would be conducted across the J&K Panchayats.“YSS Dept is holding myriad of sporting activities at Panchayat level across J&K and during Jan Abhiyan several playgrounds in different Panchayats will be identified and the necessary work, if any, would be taken up,” he had said.
Lt Governor, recently as part of B2V Phase 3, inaugurated Youth recreational Centre at Shrimal, Shopian and dedicated the building to the budding sports persons and athletes of the area. The young girls & boys practicing martial art welcomed the move as highly encouraging and beneficial for promotion of sports in JKUT.

“Fit India Freedom Run” was also organized in all districts on 28th, 29th& 30th September across J&K to give impetus to sports activities & culture in Jammu & Kashmir.
