Sr. Consultant WCD Ministry visits Baramulla, discusses measures for Setting ‘OSC’

Baramulla: A team of officers headed by Senior Consultant Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India, Dr. Japuka Madhavi, today paid visit to Baramulla and discussed various measures for the establishment of One-Stop Center (Sakhi).
Pertinent to mention that OSC is an initiative of the WCD Ministry to help the women affected by violence in private and public spaces, within the family, community and at the workplace.
On the occasion, a thorough discussion on the subject was held during which the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo informed that several measures have been taken by the district administration including identification of land for construction of building, timely recruitment of necessary manpower among other vital matters.
The DC also informed that a temporary centre was established by the authorities where integrated services to the affected women are being provided in a smooth manner.
The Sr. Consultant highlighted the importance of setting such a centre and said that the facility is created to provide integrated services to the women like medical, legal, psychosocial support and temporary shelter under one roof besides victims of domestic violence and other forms of crimes can also take shelter.
Stressing upon all stakeholders to work in coordination for the successful functioning of the centre, Dr. Madhavi assured every kind of possible assistance for making the centre more effective, robust and vibrant.
She said that women empowerment has been on the priority areas of the present government and listed various centrally sponsored schemes and programme in this regard.
Programme Officer ICDS, District Child Protection officer and various concerned officers were present during the meeting.
