SRL Diagnostics launches the first drive-thru for COVID 19 sample collection in Tamil Nadu

Chennai : To increase accessibility for the people of Chennai, SRL Diagnostics – one of India’s leading diagnostic chains, has launched the first COVID-19 drive-thru sample collection site in the state. The drive-through site is located at 68, Panagal Park, Sir Theagaraya Rd, T. Nagar, Chennai.

The drive-through was inaugurated by Shri D N Hari Kiran Prasad IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, T. Nagar Chennai, Shri Dhanaselvan, Inspector of Police (L&O), Pondy Bazar, Chennai and Smt. Thahira, Inspector of Police (Crime), Pondy Bazar, Chennai.

Sharing details about the recent initiative, Mr Anand K., CEO, SRL Diagnostics, said, “Amidst these trying times, diagnostic labs across the country are continuously working towards ramping up their capacity. To further meet the growing demand in the city, we have added the first drive-through facility, which will ramp up our sample collection process, thereby serving more residents of Chennai. The concept has proved helpful in increasing accessibility and to fast-track sample collection for Covid-19 while making it safer for the patient and the healthcare worker.”

Earlier SRL Diagnostics was catering to the residents of Chennai through home-collection service and walk-ins at their designated centre at New Avadi Road, Kilpauk. However, with the addition of this new drive-through facility, the aim is to cater to a larger consumer base. The drive-thru procedure is simple, the patient remains in the passenger seat – next to the driver or in the left rear seat, the nasal / throat swab sample is taken through the car window – the entire process (drive-in entry to exit) takes about five to ten minutes. These samples are then sent to SRL Molecular lab on New Avadi road, Kilpauk for testing under temperature controlled conditions as specified by ICMR. The report will be released within 24 hours of sample collection.

“To manage the testing requirement of the country, we have been conducting the Covid-19 test with 15 RT-PCR labs spread across the length and breadth of the country. And to further bolster the capacity and enhance accessibility, we are planning to open five more RT PCR labs, along with more drive-through sample collection sites across the country,” he added further.

With the recent acquisition of DDRC SRL, the organisation is now the largest path lab chain in South India with a wide-spread network across Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu. SRL Diagnostics is also the largest Path lab chain with the highest (430+) number of labs across the country.
