SRM Valliammai Engineering College honoured Tamil Culture with its Festive College day Celebrations

Chennai : One of the oldest surviving languages and one of the world’s seven classical languages, Tamil, a language whose literary heritage runs back to two-millenia, falls under multiple magnificent titles. Honouring Tamil and the prestigious culture rooted in the language, SRM Valliammai Engineering College celebrated their College Day and the Kaanavea Vanthen -2022, a first-of-its-kind event, in glory and grandeur. Centered around the theme of Tamil art forms and culturals, the ardent group of students and staff from SRM Valliammai Engineering College and Paarivendhar Students Tamil Association jointly organized the event as a tribute to this ancient language. In line with this, the exemplary orator, writer and scholar in Tamil, and the host of the popular TV show Indha naal iniya naal on Sun TV, Kalaimamani Thiru Suki Sivam graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and distributed the academic prizes to all the winners.

 

Elevating the spirit of traditional Tamil culture, this cultural extravaganza began with an auspicious prayer song. In the beginning, Dr. M. Murugan, Vice Principal delivered the welcome address. Dr. B. Chidhambararajan, Principal, SRM Valliammai Engineering College, presented the Annual Report showcasing the laurels in academics, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of students and faculties during the previous years. Dr Ravi Pachamuthu, Chairman, SRM Group presented the Presidential Address. Kalaimamani Thiru Suki Sivam delivered the Special Address to everybody who was gathered at this propitious ceremony. Ms. R Harini, Correspondent, SRM VEC felicitated all the Winners, Chief Guest and everybody who participated in the ceremony followed by the prize distribution. Dr. S. Ramachandran, Deputy Director Admin, SRM Group, Dr.Antony Ashok, Director, Hotel Management and Dr. H. Krishnan, Professor & Head of Physics Department were the other dignitaries present on the dais. In the Cultural Extravaganza, the Students from various departments put together their expertise in the forms of songs, dance, music, mime, yoga, silambam and skit. The Tamil drama played by Sankarbabu & team was an eye opener to the young generation.

Commenting on the occasion, Kalaimamani Thiru Suki Sivam said, “I am extremely delighted to be invited as the Chief Guest for the event. It is heartwarming to witness an event which highly portrays the importance of Tamil and the culture linked to the language. I am moved by the tremendous efforts put forth by the students to make this a first-of-its kind event. The culturals and performances were scintillating and I enjoyed every moment of it. Performances like this help students build self-confidence. I specially congratulate all the winners who excelled in the respective categories with determination and dedication and there lies a bright future and prosperous career ahead for all the students”.

Adding on to this, Ms. R Harini, Correspondent, SRM VEC, “It is for the first time the SRM Valliammai Engineering College is organizing a Tamil Centric College Day, which highlights the beauty and glory of the language. SRM VEC is celebrating its 21st College Day and as always it was indeed a magnificent occasion to remember. We are also extremely delighted to have Kalaimamani Thiru Suki Sivam, as the Chief Guest. There is no other person who could have lightened up the event other than him. With his inspiring speech and his blessed presence, made the event special”. The event ended with the Vote of Thanks Ceremony by Dr. D. Elango, Professor and HoD- Department of Civil Engineering.
