Mumbai: NCPA@home, the digital series of the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) brings to you yet another week of spellbinding performances from artistes across the globe and India. While you stay safe at home, the digital series of specially curated performances ensures that all art aficionados have a variety of cultural engagements to look forward to with the weekly dose of entertainment.

Ferdinand Mount Talk

Date: 10th June 2020

Time: 6.00pm IST

 

In the second session of this straight talk, well-known British writer Ferdinand Mount from his book Prime Movers: From Pericles to Gandhi will bring alive the thoughts of 12 great thinkers and politicians who have shaped our understanding of history and politics. He will take everyone on a thought-provoking journey that will shed light on the personal lives as well as the political legacy of men such as Jesus Christ, Rousseau, Adam Smith, and Mahatma Gandhi, among several others.

Saxophone Colossus ft. Ben van den Dungen

Date: 11th June 2020

Time: 6.00pm IST

 

Enjoy an evening of world class Jazz with one of the finest international saxophonists. Ben van den Dungen, born in the Hague, is a renowned Dutch jazz saxophonist (Soprano & Tenor Saxophone) whose spellbinding original compositions, innovative interpretations of the standards and instrumental virtuosity promise an unforgettable musical experience. With musicians from all over the world such as The United States, Sedan, Hungary and Netherlands performing together it is a treat to the ears of all the music connoisseurs across the country.

Renowned Hindustani classical vocalist and Padma Sri award winner, Ulhas Kashalkar will be celebrating the legendary composers Anant Manohar Joshi and S. N. Ratanjankar by presenting their soulful compositions. Endowed with a mellifluous voice and command over a wide repertoire of well-known and rare ragas, Ulhas Kashalkar’s music reflects a harmonious blend of Gwalior, Agra and Jaipur traditions.

Note: This event was staged in July 2012 as a part of NCPA’s annual festival titled Bandish: Celebrating the Legendary Composers.

 

Symphony Orchestra of India :

Mozart- Symphony No. 41 “Jupiter” 

Date: 13th June 2020

Time: 6.00pm IST

 

Mozart’s Symphony No. 41, known as “Jupiter”, was the last symphony written by him and is known for its energy and grand scale. It is widely considered as one of the greatest symphonies ever written and has bagged third rank in the survey of 151 conductors conducted by BBC Music Magazine

Note: This concert was led by Music Director Marat Bisengaliev and was part of the NCPA’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

 

 

 

Anweshanaa: In Search of Excellence

Odissi by Ratikant Mohapatra’s Srjan

Date: 14th June 2020

Time: 6.00pm IST

 

Founded by the eminent Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Srijan has evolved into a premier Odissi dance institute of India. Performed at the NCPA Nakshatra dance festival 2015 by Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Ratikant Mohapatra, Anweshanaa presents a bouquet of some of the finest choreographies of the Odissi dance.

The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) introduced the digital series, NCPA@home, with the intent to spread positivity through art in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The series showcase includes exclusive videos and content from Indian Music, Dance, International Music, and the Symphony Orchestra of India from the NCPA’s extensive archival library. Specially curated for music and dance enthusiasts, viewers from across India and the world have been enjoying some of the finest performances from the confines of their homes. The digital series has showcased performances by stalwarts such as Girija Devi, Mallika Sarabhai, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Aditi Mangaldas, Mud Morganfield as well as performances of some of the greatest orchestral works by the SOI. The series further includes presentations, lecture demonstrations and masterclasses.
