Stefano Mocci Announced as New World Bank Group Country Manager for Fiji
SUVA – Starting today, Stefano Mocci becomes the World Bank Group Country Manager for Fiji, a position that will unify country-level leadership to better support the country’s public and private sector priorities. This newly created position provides a single point of contact for access to the full breadth of World Bank Group products and services and will enhance the institutions’ ability to address global challenges, and drive development with speed, efficiency, and impact.
“We are committed to this new and unified leadership approach that will enable us to better support the country’s public and private sector to better serve the people of Fiji,” said Stefano Mocci, World Bank Group Country Manager for Fiji. “Unified Bank Group leadership will improve our speed and make us a better partner to the government, the private sector, and ultimately the people we serve.”
The World Bank Group is focused on strengthening economic and climate resilience; building social protection and health systems; enhancing the sustainability of Fiji’s tourism sector; increasing gender inclusion; and improving the resilience of infrastructure in the country. Additionally, the Bank Group is committed to supporting private sector development by enhancing the enabling environment for investment, and improving environmental, social and governance practices.
Prior to this role, Stefano Mocci has held various positions across the World Bank Group, most recently as World Bank Country Manager for the South Pacific, and World Bank Country Manager for Papua New Guinea. He has also held field-based posts both in middle-income countries and fragile, conflict and violence-affected states. Mocci served as Senior Country Officer and Senior Operations Officer in the Middle East and North Africa Region, where he oversaw the delivery of the World Bank’s program, maintaining close relationships with national authorities and key stakeholders in West Bank and Gaza, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. Before joining the World Bank Group in 2000, Mocci worked as a Governance Program Officer at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The introduction of joint country representation is an important step towards building a stronger World Bank Group. Fiji is one of 21 World Bank Group offices transitioning to a single World Bank Group Country Manager or Resident Representative for the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). Mr. Mocci will continue his existing role as World Bank Country Manager for the other South Pacific countries including Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Nauru.
