Student of Mata Bhagwanti Chadha Niketan to participate in World Winter Games in Austria
Mumbai: Akshay Bora, student of Mata Bhagwanti Chadha Niketan would be participating in Special Olympics Winter Games 2017 that began on March 14th and would go on till March 25th. With 3,000 athletes and 110 countries participating, this is the world’s largest sports and humanitarian event in 2017 that is being held in Graz, Austria. Akshay Bora would be participating in the snowboarding event. Mr. Rohit Manchanda, MBCN’s sports coach is also representing in the world winter games as a unified floorball coach.
Mata Bhagwanti Chadha Niketan works under the aegis of The Ponty Chadha Foundation that works towards the social and economic development of the society.
On this occasion, a send-off function was organized at Major Dhayn Chand Stadium on March 14th for the special athletes, their coaches and officials going to participate in the World Winter Games in Austria. The program was hosted by another student of MBCN, Shrey Kadyan. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Vijay Goel was present at the event to wish good luck to all the participants.
The Indian delegation for the special event includes 140 athletes, coaches, youth leaders, families and officials. Of this, 90 athletes will be participating in 7 out of 9 sport disciplines featuring the World Games. These 7 sports include Alpine skiing, Snow Shoeing, Snow Boarding, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Floor Hockey and Floor Ball including Unified Floor Ball.
Set up by late Gurdeep (Ponty) Singh Chadha, MBCN is a school for special children. To educate and prepare special children to live within the community, the school was set up in 1999 with a mission to make these children self-dependent — physically, socially and financially.
