Gurugram: Suncity School, sector 54 held its annual Sports Day at its premises today. The students from the Elementary Years Programme (EYP), I.e. pre-nursery, nursery and kindergarten participated in various competitions. The theme for this year was ‘ROOTS’.
The meet was declared open with a warm welcome accorded to the parents and releasing of balloons to declare the meet open by Mr. Ankit Goel, Vice Chairman, Suncity School and Mrs Rupa Chakravarty, Head of Suncity School. The event kick-started with an enthralling performance by young cheerleaders. This was followed by the march past and Drills (Peacock, Yoga & Emoticon). The highlight of the event was the presentations in gymnastics and taekwondo by ARPAN Students.
On the occasion, Mrs Rupa Chakravarty said “Academic excellence is necessary so is a healthy body and mind. We, at Suncity School, understand the importance of sports and accordingly the children here are exposed to best practice equipment under the aegis of trained coaches.”
Adhereing to the theme of the year, some of the other activities in which students participated included various races such as ‘Florist at work’, ‘Sandeshvahak’, ‘Let’s go fishing’, ‘Against all odds’, ‘Dress up the scarecrow’, and ‘Caper & Pouch race’. The spectators, consisting of parents and teachers cheered the participants as they raced to the finish line.
To mark the occasion, the playground was decorated with festoons, balloons, flags, banners especially crafted by the students. Parents also actively participated in several races, one of them being the catapult race.
Emphasising on the importance of sports, the Principal added, “Sports is about participation, not competition. It provides a platform for the students to learn various life skills such as leadership, discipline and above all helps in psycho-somatic development”
Neev Gupta, a kindergarten student of Suncity School, sector 54 delivered the vote of thanks in a chaste and precise manner which was highly applauded by all the spectators.. The event concluded with the prize distribution ceremony and the National Anthem.
