“Sustainability Insight in 30 Minutes: Smart Knowledge for Localising SDGs

The sixth  interview session of the “Sustainability Insight in 30 minutes” on 20 July 2020 from 14:00 to 14:30 (GMT+7) featured Dr. Anthony Sales, CESO III, Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology  (DOST) XI, from the Philippines. Moderated by Prof. Shahbaz Khan, Director of UNESCO Office in Jakarta and Regional Science Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, the discussion revolved on using a culturally sensitive and specifically customized approaches and solutions to overcome local challenges, which Dr. Anthony defined as the smart approach. Dr. Anthony also stressed on the strong support of the local government in utilizing the product and outcome developed from research. Part of the MUCP outcome, the SETI for SDGs Scorecard, he further clarified,  has been used intensively by the local government to do assessment for any projects.

He further emphasized the significance of engaging youths and integrating sciences in education, as well as importance of engaging all relevant stakeholders via the Penta-Helix Modality. In his ending remarks, he emphasized how MUCP can be utilized to be a platform to both promote and link any tools and outcome developed with all relevant parties, whether from the authorities and industrial players.
