Sustainable Energy for All Forum

Co-hosted by Sustainable Energy for All and the Government of Rwanda, the Sustainable Energy for All Forum is the landmark global gathering to take stock of progress, showcase success and identify solutions to achieve faster, broader gains towards sustainable energy for all.

The UN Development Programme will co-organize two events as part of the Forum’s official programme, and UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner and Regional Director for Africa Ahunna Eziakonwa will deliver keynote speeches. Mr Steiner will deliver his speech virtually while Ms Eziakonwa will act a the UNDP Head of Delegation on-site.

UNDP’s new Sustainable Energy Hub seeks to use the Sustainable Energy for All Forum as a platform to mobilize the game-changing partnerships, innovation and finance needed to both achieve UNDP’s pledge to provide sustainable energy to 500 million people by 2025, and to accelerate a just energy transition in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement targets.

PUE entrepreneurs need access to investment capital to scale operations and serve low-income and last-mile consumers, supported by policy and regulatory frameworks that guarantee a level playing field. Leaders from the private sector, investment funds, governments and the UN, including UNDP’s Resident Representative in Rwanda Mr Maxwell Gomera and Special Representative for Energy in Africa from BMZ/GIZ Bärbel Höhn, will discuss how entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers collaborate to grow this promising ecosystem.

The speech will call to rethink development approaches when it comes to sustainable energy, and highlight the solutions that need to be scaled up to support countries in transforming their energy systems to both advance progress for sustainable energy access for all and related Sustainable Development Goals while limiting climate change.
