SVKM’s NMIMS Deemed-to-be University Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering receives ABET Accreditation
Mumbai: SVKM’s NMIMS’s Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering (MPSTME) received ABET Accreditation for 5 programs – B.Tech. degree programs in Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering have been accredited by Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET while B.Tech. in Information Technology has been accredited by Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.
NMIMS is the first engineering institution in Maharashtra and in Western India to receive ABET accreditation for its programs. NMIMS will join a small number of elite universities around the world to receive this honour.
ABET accreditation assures that programs meet global standards and produce graduates that are ready to enter critical technical fields and lead the way in innovation and emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.
On the occasion, Dr. Sharad Mhaiskar, Pro Vice-Chancellor, NMIMS said,
“Commitment to excellence in engineering education has been the hallmark of NMIMS’s MPSTME. In addition to meeting and exceeding domestic norms of education, NMIMS recently undertook an arduous effort to ensure that its programs met the global gold standards of quality in engineering education- getting the U. S. based and coveted ABET accreditation.
ABET evaluation involved careful scrutiny of what the students learned in their degree program, curriculum details, faculty qualifications, adequacy of facilities and compliance with norms expected by engineering professional societies like American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and Computer Science Accreditation Board (CSAB). Accreditation of five programs is a huge achievement for the school. “
Joining NMIMS is taking a step towards achieving excellent education, as at the end of the program, students receive a highly marketable degree. They also gain value that keeps enhancing as NMIMS endeavours to become one of the best institutions in the country.
Sought after worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is also highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision, and safety are of utmost importance.
Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focuses on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation looks at program curricula, faculty, facilities, and institutional support which are reviewed by a team of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia, and government, and have expertise in the ABET disciplines.
ABET is a non-profit, non-governmental organization with ISO 9001:2015 certification. It has accredited 4,144 programs at 812 colleges and universities in 32 countries.
