Swachhta Pakhwada observed at AMU
Aligarh : A series of activities was conducted by the Departments, Colleges, Schools and other units of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), under the Swachhta Pakhwada campaign, to promote cleanliness and hygiene among the masses.
The students, faculty members and staff of Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, AMU, took part in Swachhta Pakhwada events that began on September 2.
The College Principal, Prof. R.K. Tewari launched the Swachhta anthem and led a signature campaign at the college reception. Faculty members, students, and visitors enthusiastically participated, pledging their commitment to cleanliness.
The Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry initiated the campaign on September 3 with a shramdaan (voluntary labour) and campus cleanup drive. This was followed by mass awareness campaigns on September 4, led by the Departments of Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology.
Similarly, the Department of Prosthodontics and Dental Materials organized a Swachhta Seminar on September 5, educating the students and staff on hygiene practices. On September 6, Swachhta rally and slogan writing competition were conducted by the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, spreading the message of cleanliness across the campus.
The Department of Oral Surgery conducted another round of shramdaan and renovation activities, while the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics set up a Swachhta Selfie Booth, encouraging participants to capture and share their involvement in the cleanliness drive.
The college community, including staff and students, took part in large-scale cleaning drives, ensuring a cleaner and healthier campus environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. R.K. Tewari remarked “cleanliness is not a one-time effort, but a continuous process, and it begins with each one of us”.
The Department of Urdu observed Swachhata Pakhwada, which was attended by a large number of students, faculty, and staff members. Professor Quamrul Hooda Faridi, Chairman of the Department, led the effort, inspiring others to follow suit.
A program themed as Swachhta Hi Seva was also organised at the Department, with enthusiastic participation by the students, faculty members, and staff.
The Tamil section of the Department of Modern Indian Languages created a painting, portraying the importance of cleaning and the indispensable place of health workers on earth, as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada celebration.
Shaiharitha M., pursuing PhD in Tamil created this painting, which was handed over to the Chairperson Prof. T.N. Sathessan, on behalf of the Tamil section.
Maulana Azad Library observed Swachhata Pakhwada, organising several events, in which all the Deputy Librarians, Assistant Librarians and other staff members of the Library took part, in order to promote cleanliness and make all possible efforts for an efficient and practical observance of Swachhata Pakhwada.
The University Librarian, Prof. Nishat Fatima administered a Swachhata Pledge to the staff of the Library, who pledged to remain committed towards cleanliness. In addition to this, the Collection Development Division and Periodical Division were identified for space management and beautification. Dr.Shajarul Islam Khan and Dr. Daud Khan (Assistant Librarians) coordinated the program.
As part of the Swachhta Pakhwada initiative, a series of activities were organized at STS School to promote cleanliness and hygiene awareness among students, especially in the primary section.
A hand wash demonstration was conducted for the primary section students to educate them on the importance of hand hygiene. The teachers actively participated in guiding the students during the demonstration, making it an interactive and informative session.
Students also contributed to the Swachhta Pakhwada by creating posters and slogans that conveyed powerful messages about cleanliness and hygiene. The posters were displayed around the school premises to spread awareness and motivate everyone to adopt clean and healthy habits.
Teachers gave detailed instructions to the students on how to maintain personal cleanliness and ensure a hygienic environment both at home and in school.
Mr.Faisal Nafis, Principal, S.T.S. School stressed the significance of cleanliness in preventing diseases and fostering a healthy lifestyle.
The students participated enthusiastically in cleaning the school premises, including classrooms, playgrounds, and common areas.
Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged, AMU successfully conducted a series of activities to promote the Swachh Bharat Mission and raise awareness about cleanliness and hygiene among students.
A pledge on Swachh Bharat was administered by the School Principal to the staff and the students to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, promising to contribute to the noble cause. Students participated in an essay writing competition, on the topic “Single Use of Plastic.” Gulam Hossain, Bharti Yadav, and Atifa Khatoon were declared first, second and third respectively.
A speech competition was held, where students envisioned a plastic-free India. Winners were Atifa Khatoon (1st), Bharti Yadav (2nd), and Hassan Ahmad Khan (3rd).
Under Shramdaan Activity teachers dedicated their time to cleanliness and community service, inspiring others to take pride in their surroundings.
Posters promoting cleanliness were displayed, and a plantation drive was also organised.
In the school premises a selfie-point was set up, where teachers and students shared messages and slogans promoting cleanliness. Collective singing of the Swachh Bharat Mission Anthem was done. In session on cleanliness and hygiene, the School Principal Dr. Naila Rashid emphasised that Cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility , so let’s work together to create a better future.
