Swachhta Pakhwada observed at AMU with commitment
ALIGARH : The Aligarh Muslim University schools, colleges and departments of studies organized several programmes and events under the “Swachhta Pakhwada”, a national cleanliness drive held in the country during September 1-15. The events held during this period included Pledge-taking ceremony, cleanliness activities and awareness programmes including talk, essay competition and street play.
The teaching and non-teaching staff, along with the students at the Faculty of Law took the Swachhata Pledge and participated in the cleanliness drive on the premises.
Prof. M.Z.M. Nomani, Dean, Faculty of Law emphasised the importance of cleanliness across all Indian cultures. He deliberated on Mahatma Gandhi’s exhortation that ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’ and discussed Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s observations related to the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
Dr. Zeba Azmat, Incharge, Land and Garden and Conservancy, Faculty of Law, highlighted the aims and objectives of Swachhata Pakhwada.
The Department of Geology observed the cleanliness drive by cleaning of classrooms, washrooms and the surroundings.
Prof. Kr. Farahim Khan, Chairman of the department, urged the faculty members and students to help maintain cleanliness in the department and its adjoining areas and spare time to spread the message of cleanliness in society.
At the Department of Urdu, the Swachhata Pakhwada was observed by carrying out cleanliness related activities by the staff and students.
Prof Qamrul Huda Faridi, Chairman of the department, stressed the need to keep clean the department, neighborhood, and the country.
The Department of Social Work, in association with the Abdul Baseer Khan High School, organized a Poster-making Competition on the theme of ‘Swachh Bharat’.
Later, a cleanliness drive was held on the school premises, engaging students and staff in the upkeep of their surroundings.
Prof. Naseem Ahmad Khan, Chairman, Department of Social Work said that this collaborative Swachhata activity will help induce sense of community engagement in students.
Dr. Saba Hasan, Vice Principal, A.B.K. High School (Girls), along with other teachers participated in the joint programme. Mr. Mohd Uzair, Department of Social Work, coordinated the cleanliness-related activities.
At the Department of Linguistics, a cleanliness campaign was held with office staff, students and research scholars carrying out cleaning of the classrooms, lawns and adjoining areas. Dr Pallav Vishnu stressed the need for keeping the surroundings clean and contributing to make India a progressive nation.
The University Health Office conducted a special cleanliness drive by cleaning drains and nalas, cutting of wild plants and shrubs and spraying anti-larva liquid to prevent the spread of vector borne diseases on university campus. Fogging was also carried out in residential halls, departments and offices during this period.
At the S.T.S. School, a Swachhata Pakhwada Pledge was administered by the Principal, Mr Faisal Nafis to students and teachers in the morning assembly to spread the message of cleanliness. He urged them to observe high degree of personal hygiene, maintain cleanliness in their surrounding areas and act rationally to save the environment.
Dr. Sadat Suhail delivered a speech on the importance of cleanliness, highlighting the Swachhta theme of the year, “Waste to Wealth”.
Later, the students and staff participated in a massive cleanliness drive on the school campus and took an e-Pledge to devote themselves for Swachhata mission.
The teachers and students at the Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged took a pledge to keep the school and surroundings clean and spread the Swachhta message in society to make the country a Swachh Bharat in true sense.
The students also gave speeches on the harms caused to environment by the plastic and they urged the people to stop using plastic in any manner.
Dr. Naila Rashid, Principal, urged all not to use plastic in daily life and advised them to be cautious for personal hygiene and clean environment.
At the AMU City Girls High School, a “Nukkad Natak” was organised by the students on “Swachhta”, besides conduct of the Swachhta pledge by the Principal, Dr Mohd Alamgir.
In his address, Dr Alamgir highlighted the benefits of cleanliness, adding that cleanliness is one of the most important aspects of a healthy body and mind.
The Vice-Principal, Mohd Javed Akhtar threw light on the importance of cleanliness and said that a clean body, mind and soul are very important for our survival.
A poster making activity with the ‘Say No to Plastic’ message was held in the school, with Ms. Sahar Naqvi urging people to stop using plastics. Saniya, Subiya Khan and Alisha Zaheer got the first, second and third prizes in the Poster Making Competition.
The students actively took part in the cleaning of the classrooms.
The students of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh AMU City School organized a Swachhta rally, led by the Principal, Mr Tanveer Nabi, from the school premises and participated in the cleaning of nearby areas, from exhibition ground to Raghuvir Puri.
Mr. Nabi stressed the importance of cleanliness in life and urged the people to regularly carry out cleaning of their houses and adjoining areas by observing safe waste disposal habits. He said that cleanliness is the foundation of good health and regular cleaning of the surroundings help prevent the spread of diseases.
