JAMMU: As a part of Drug Deaddiction Campaign, the Department of Social Welfare, Jammu today organized an awareness programme for Prisoners here at Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal and District Jail, Amphalla.

The awareness programme was conducted in cooperation with Mashwara- an NGO working in the field of Drug de-addiction and respective jail authorities. On the occasion, a cultural event depicting the ill effects of drugs and ways to come out of the habit was staged for the inmates. Further, resource persons and psychiatric Doctors delivered impressive lectures educating about the abuses of drugs, and how to reduce the demand of drugs by saying No and also provided counseling sessions on the occasion. The inmates gave a patient hearing to the speakers and felt motivated as the issue which otherwise is viewed as a stigma, is being discussed on a platform.

Jail authorities expressed their gratitude to the Department for organizing such an awareness programme, which is the need of the hour and urged for conducting more such programmes in near future.

A signature campaign was also organized on the occasion.
