Sweet Corn Day celebrations held across various educational institutions at Anantnag

ANANTNAG : The Department of Agriculture, Anantnag organised functions in various Govt Degree Colleges and Higher Secondary schools of the district to celebrate Sweet Corn Day.

The officers of the Agriculture Department delivered lectures on importance and promotion of marketing of Sweet Corn to the students who participated in the event and demonstrated the preparation of sweet corn for marketing purposes.

Moreover, all the Agriculture Extension Officers facilitated farmers by providing space for marketing of Sweet Corn in their respective zone offices.

Chief Agriculture Officer, Anantnag, Aijaz Ahmad said that while increasing the area under cultivation and crop yields have been a priority area for the department. He said there has been an increasing focus on introduction of new varieties of crops owing to the high demand and farmers can fetch high prices for their produce. He said this is essential to increase the income of farmers and ensure sustainable cropping.

It is pertinent to mention that the Department of Agriculture has signed MoU with the Degree colleges of Anantnag covering key skill development/employment generation sectors for education and learning purposes.
