Swinburne University of Technology: Swinburne first Vic uni to bring Open Day back to campus in 2022

After a two-year hiatus, Swinburne University of Technology is proud to be the first university in Victoria this year to welcome prospective students to an on-campus Open Day on Sunday 31 July 2022.

Swinburne will roll out the welcome mat at its Hawthorn campus, giving attendees the opportunity to:

meet industry-leading teaching staff, current students and technology, including astronomer Professor Alan Duffy and the Kuka Industrial Robot
explore the dual-sector institution’s innovative high-tech facilities
discover courses and potential careers in an interactive and engaging way
be immersed in Swinburne’s unique cosmopolitan Hawthorn campus and get a taste of student life.
Biggest Open Day yet
In celebration of its on-campus return, this year’s Swinburne Open Day is set to be the biggest to date, with nearly 300 events and activities planned for the date.

Vice-Chancellor and President of Swinburne, Professor Pascale Quester, says the university is thrilled to be opening its campus to showcase its next-gen spirit.

“We cannot wait to share our campus in person with prospective students and their families and friends,” Professor Quester says.

“We have had amazing engagement with students through our award-winning virtual campus, Swintopia, but nothing beats the on-campus experience as students are guided by our world-renowned teaching staff to push the boundaries where people and technology work together to build a better world.”

Unique activations
For the first time in two years, there will be campus tours, refreshments, live music, and giveaways. Prospective students, their families and friends will also experience a variety of engaging activations designed to showcase the next-gen spirit of Swinburne.
Some of the Swinburne Open Day activations include:
All Tech on Deck: Showcasing the capabilities of many of Swinburne’s state-of-the-art tools and technologies.
next gen_ talks: Leveraging Swinburne’s relationships with industry, key experts will share inspirational talks about their industries’ present and future.
HI Hub: Interactive Human Intelligence (HI) Hubs located throughout the campus with current students available to help guide and plan attendees’ day.
Swintopia [AR]: Swinburne’s virtual campus Swintopia comes to life. Animated ‘Swintopians’ take guests on a campus tour and discover Swinburne facts, campus-life tips and more.
Earthquake Simulator: The only technology in the Southern hemisphere that can simulate a bridge in an earthquake.
Innovation Challenge: Brainstorm solutions to prepare humanity for the next pandemic and discover Swinburne’s new Bachelor of Applied Innovation degree.
Neuroimaging: Cutting-edge research from Swinburne’s Neuroimaging facility to help further understand the human brain.
We’ll print this city: The future of construction at the Digital Construction Lab in action with Swinburne’s 3D concrete printers.
An experience in technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, Swinburne’s Open Day will exhibit the wide range of courses on offer at the university across 17 areas of study including Business, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Design, Engineering, Law, Psychology, Science and more – all upgraded to meet the job needs of the future.

This year, Swinburne celebrates its 30th year as a university. This marks decades of pioneering education and innovation in transformative technology, entrepreneurship, aerospace, and medical technology, as well as a youthful and nimble approach to learning for today’s world.
