Tata Chemicals wins CSIR Diamond Jubilee Technology Award 2019
Mumbai, 28th September, 2020: Tata Chemicals, a leading sustainable and science-led chemistry solutions company, has been felicitated with the CSIR Diamond Jubilee Technology Award 2019 for the technological advancements it has made in the production of ‘Fructo-oligosaccharides’, also known as FOSSENCE.
Tata Chemicals through its Nutritional Sciences business, Tata NQ, follows a whole-cell fermentation route, using in-house patented technology to manufacture FOS. It is a product of the Company’s vision to offer nature-inspired and science-backed ingredient and formulation. This vision has been strengthened by Tata Chemicals’ robust intellectual capital with two FOS patents granted so far and nine patents under review.
Speaking on the achievement, Mr. R Mukundan, MD & CEO, Tata Chemicals, said, “Nurturing food technology for a healthy living has been at the core of our Nutritional Sciences business. Born out of a vision to give an impetus to human and animal nutrition, the production of FOS has been supported by our multidisciplinary team of scientists working on microbiome science and fermentation technology. We are deeply honoured to be recognised for our efforts in developing innovation-led products and it is a privilege to receive the prestigious CSIR Diamond Jubilee Technology Award 2019. This recognition will encourage us further to achieve chemical excellence and serve society through science.”
FOS being a 100% soluble, potent prebiotic and dietary fiber made from cane sugar biotransformation caters to the growing base of health and lifestyle-conscious consumers who are increasingly demanding food and supplements that balance functionalities (naturalness, safety and nutrition). This B2B product selectively enhances the growth of beneficial microbiota in the gut which is known to improve immunity, nutrient absorption, lipid transport and overall digestive & bowel health. FOS, owing to its naturally sweet taste caters to the health & wellness food and beverage (F&B) and nutraceutical formulation companies.
Council of Scientific & Industrial Research launched the annual Diamond Jubilee Technology Award in 2002 with an objective to foster such technological innovations based on innovative science and encourage scientists, engineers and technologists to develop innovative technologies and products. The Award is given to a technology that is developed in the country by Indian innovators and meets the highest global standards.
