Tata Power Delhi Distribution educates 50 Delhi schools and educational institutes on rooftop solar and energy-efficient practices
New Delhi: With an aim to promote the use of energy-efficient measures and encourage rooftop solar power generation, Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL) organised a workshop for its consumers from the education sector. The workshop was attended by 50 Delhi schools and institutes.
The key agenda for the workshop was to encourage educational institutes to use solar energy, create awareness on grid-connected, rooftop-based PV power plants and make them understand the value proposition that Tata Power-DDL will provide by partnering with them in harnessing the green power and getting substantial economic benefits.
Having large proportion of rooftop space, educational institutes are ideal for rooftop solar power. Their peak loads are often during daytime, coinciding with the peak solar generation time, which can help them meet up to 25 percent of their power needs through solar power. Also, most of their electrical loads can be easily supported by solar. Solar power plants also require very less maintenance and ensure reliable power for over two decades.
The institutes can take advantage for installation of the solar rooftop plants from Tata Power-DDL, which is an empanelled first utility channel partner with the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, and has received the highest honour rating of SP1A (pronounced as Solar Power One A) twice as a system integration grading for solar PV projects in the context. The rating indicates highest performance capability and highest financial strength of Tata Power-DDL to undertake solar PV projects.
The grid-connected, rooftop-based PV power plants supervised by Tata Power-DDL have a life span of 25 years, wherein 1KW of PV power plant will generate up to 1,400 units in a year. Consumers and institutions can also sell the surplus power generated to the discom at Rs11 per unit, and attain breakeven on investment in five years. The company endeavours to give end-to-end service with 5-, 7- and 10-year annual maintenance contracts.
Commenting on the initiative, Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power-DDL, said, “We have been an active participant for the promotion of solar energy in the country. I believe, only clean and green energy is a guarantee for a sustainable development and we all must opt for renewable sources of power to light up our lives. We will continue our efforts towards enhancing the use of solar power amongst our consumer base and contribute towards the national solar mission, which aims to establish India as a global leader in solar energy”.
Tata Power-DDL has been actively involved in the promotion of rooftop solar projects and has been conferred with several awards, including the National Award for Promotion of Rooftop Solar Programmes. Tata Power-DDL has also been awarded numerous accolades for implementing energy-efficiency improvement projects, including the National Award for Excellence in Energy Management as an innovative energy saving service by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
