Tata Steel Adventure Foundation organises all women expedition to Kedarkantha in Garhwal Himalaya
Jamshedpur: A 21-member all women team comprising employees of Tata Steel and Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) have started an expedition to Kedarkantha (12500 ft) in Garhwal Himalaya range of Uttarakhand.
Attempt will be made to scale the peak on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day.
The expedition being organised by the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) is led by Ms Bachendri Pal, Mentor TSAF. Everester Hemant Gupta, Senior Manager, Adventure Programmes Tata Steel, Ms Asmita Dorjee Instructor, Mohan Singh Rawat Instructor, Randev Singh Rawat and Mukesh Sundi, Field Staffs from TSAF are actively involved in organising the expedition. Everester Ms. Chetna Sahoo (summit 2016) and Everester Ms. Savita Dhapwal (summit 1993) would also lend their support to the expedition.
Last year TSAF successfully organised women’s expedition to Mt Nag Tibba (10000 ft) in Mussoorie region. Such expeditions are specifically designed for working women keeping various objectives in mind like making them recognise the knowledge, capabilities and skills that they have in different fields, creating a social environment which gives women self-esteem and self-confidence, providing opportunities to realise their full potential, enable women to take decisions about their own lives and makers of their destiny.
Kedarkantha trek is everything a trekker can dream about; pristine mountain lakes, rich flora, exciting mountain trails of Garhwal, awesome campsites, the peaceful ambience of mountain villages and a glimpse into the distinct culture of mountain people making it a wholesome package of fun and adventure.
The expedition programme details as follows:
=March 4-Arrive in Dehradun, report at the guest house by 6:00 PM
= March5- Drive from Dehradun to Sankri & spend the night in the first camp 6400 ft
=March 6- Start the trek from Sankri and reach Juda-Ka-Talab 9000 ft
=March7- Trek from Juda-ka-Talab to Kedarkantha base camp 11250 ft
=March 8 Summit Day! Trek from base camp to Kedarkantha peak & back to base camp 12500 ft summit
=March9- Trek from the base camp to Sankri (first camp) 6000 ft
=March 10- Drive from Sankri to Dehradun; spend the night at the guest house (optional)
= March 11-dispersal from Dehradun
