Tata Steel collaborates with East Singhbhum district administration and Annamitra Foundation to lead the fight against hunger

Amidst COVID-19, a huge population of informal wage earners have been deeply affected. Tata Steel’s vulnerability mapping of Jamshedpur reveals that in the days to come ~50,000 people, who have lost their opportunity to earn, may not be fortunate to even have one wholesome meal a day.

In view of such a situation and also to enable success of the nation’s war against Corona, the East Singhbum district administration, in collaboration with Tata Steel and Annamitra Foundation, has taken an initiative titled #ThoughtforFood to provide one warm meal per day to the daily wage earners. This initiative, beginning today, will continue until the lockdown persists. This will be done with the help of volunteers from Tata Steel, Red Cross Society, and ex-service men.

Chandan Kumar, IAS, SDM, Dhalbhum, briefed the volunteers of the programme today at Dhatkidih Community Centre.

The food will be prepared at the hygienic Mid-Day Meal Kitchen of Annamitra Foundation. Ingredients for food preparation shall be provided by the District Administration and Tata Steel. The distribution to the people in different community centres and schools shall be carried out by Annamitra Foundation and volunteers from Tata Steel, Red Cross and Ex-Servicemen from 12 noon to 3 pm every day.
