Tata Steel felicitates meritorious students of West Bokaro

 

West Bokaro: With an objective to promote quality education among the students residing in and around its areas of operation, Tata Steel West Bokaro Division has initiated many projects through Tata Steel Rural Development Society, the CSR wing of Tata Steel.
144 students of Pre Matric Coaching Centres run by the West Bokaro Division of Tata Steel were felicitated in a ceremony named ‘Sambardhana’ organised today at West Bokaro Auditorium of Tata Steel. On the occasion, 134 students of Shishu Niketan, West Bokaro who are sponsored by the company were also provided with study materials. The company is bearing all education related expenses of these under-privileged SC/ST students including study materials and tuition fees.
Ms Ruchi Narendran graced the occasion as chief guest along with Ms Srimanti Sen, Ms Poonam Choudhary, Ms Ranjana Singh, Ms Minakshi Kuchroo, Ms Chandramani Devi, Prakhand Pramukh (Ramgarh), Ms Sarita Devi, Vice President, Zilla Parishad, Mr Sanjay Kumar Singh, General Manager, Coal, Tata Steel and Mr Mohan Mahto, President, Rastriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Ruchi Narendran said: “At Tata Steel, we firmly believe that our growth is directly related to the growth of the community. The idea behind focus on education is to provide necessary support and assistance to the underprivileged with an aim to make them self-sufficient and responsible citizens. Through these education initiatives, we aim to give the children a bright future.”
Congratulating the students, Mr Sanjay Kumar Singh said: “I am extremely happy to know that the students of our area are doing well in studies that reflects in 98 percent pass record. Tata Steel is supporting the under privileged students to provide them quality education and they should work hard to achieve success in life.”
In order to improve the knowledge base and provide quality education, TSRDS run Pre Matric Coaching Centres in its operational areas for students who appear for their Annual Secondary Board Examination.In 2017-18, Pre Matric Coaching classes were conducted for 1058 students from class VIII to class X at seven different centres in and around West Bokaro. Last year, a total of 20 part-time teachers provided coaching for Mathematics, English and Science. Out of 1058 students, 379 students appeared for matriculation examination conducted by Jharkhand Academic Council. 371 of them cleared the examination out of which 144 students passed the examination with first division who were felicitated on the occasion. The initiative of sponsoring underprivileged children to study at Shishu Niketan was started by Tata Steel in West Bokaro in 2012 with 20 students which has rose to 134 sponsored students in 2018.

Among others present on the occasion were senior officials of Tata Steel, Union officials and members of the community.
