Tata Steel organizes Sports Mela for women at JRD Tata Sports Complex

Jamshedpur: Tata Steel Diversity & Inclusion (D & I) council organised fifth edition of Sports Mela today for all women employees of Tata Steel and other Tata group companies and its subsidiaries here at the JRD Tata Sports Complex Archery Ground.

Over 600 participants from 10 group companies and Tata Steel participated in the afternoon event which is in run up to the Women’s Day celebrations on March 8 this year.

D & I believes that the first step in women empowerment is taking control of woman’s’ own health, respecting themselves and understanding and celebrating the value women bring to family and society.

Mr Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel inaugurated the event while Ms Ruchi Narendran was the Chief Guest at the Awards Ceremony.

Various sporting and fun events were organised during the Sports Mela. It included Tug of War, Skipping Race, Three-leg Race, Back Running, One-leg race, ball balance race, marble spoon race, Volleyball throw and various other fun events. The events were for various age categories while a few of them were open for all.

This annual event has now become hallmark event of Jamshedpur’s Diversity and Inclusion Council and brings together women colleagues from Tata Steel and Jamshedpur based Group companies to network together and also improve their health index.

Participating Companies included Tinplate, JCAPCPL, JAMIPOL, Tata Cummins, Tata Steel Utilities & Infrastructure Services Limited, Tata Motors, ISWP, Tata Pigment among other. SNTI had the maximum (118) number of participants.
