TCS’ Digital Twin Platform for Saipem Wins 2021 ISG Digital Case Study Award
MUMBAI : Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, won the 2021 ISG Digital Case Study Award™ for its outstanding work with Saipem, an Italy-headquartered leader in engineering, construction and drilling. TCS case studies in the energy sector have been recognized as ‘standouts’ this year in three different categories.
Saipem partnered with TCS to create a futuristic and immersive digital twin platform to transform its offshore drilling operations. To this end, TCS developed the Digital Drilling Fleet, a 3D virtual reality replica of Saipem’s offshore drilling rigs, with realistic textures that offer an immersive experience to operators.
This platform helps in training operators remotely – for both Saipem and its customers and partners. The training is now faster, location-independent, cost-effective, and safe. The platform also provides deep operational insights for predictive maintenance and smart HSE solutions, resulting in operational excellence, while reducing costs by 12% and increasing first-fix rates by 15%.
Further, TCS’ innovation enables a Digital Command Center on land for Saipem’s offshore drilling rigs, which will be the first of its kind in the drilling industry. Operators on rigs can focus on critical activities while all the back-office activity is conducted via the Command Center.
“Energy and resources companies worldwide are partnering with TCS to drive innovation and growth, at a time when the industry is undergoing huge transformation,” said Seema Mehra, Business Head, Energy & Resources – UK, Europe and ANZ, TCS. “This next-generation Digital Drilling Fleet is designed to integrate several different programs, from predictive maintenance to smart HSE. Indeed, we are thrilled to receive this recognition along with Saipem. It is testimony to our innovative mindset, industry-specific knowledge, and the power of collaboration.”
“Enhancing customer and user experience was the most prevalent objective across the enterprise-provider projects we examined. The transformational role providers are playing is evidenced by the many innovative and impactful solutions they have delivered,” said Paul Reynolds, Partner and Chief Research Officer, ISG. “The adoption of new and emerging technologies is a strong catalyst for digital transformation and success, and this TCS case study is a standout example of that.”
