TCS’ Sustainathon Encourages Young Minds across Europe to Address Environmental Issues with Technology

AMSTERDAM : Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting, and business solutions organization, announced the launch of Sustainathon – The Balancing Act, a Europe-wide problem-solving competition that empowers and inspires young minds to develop and execute innovative ideas that will help organizations overcome critical sustainability challenges using advanced digital technologies.

The European Sustainathon is now open for registration until January 21, 2022. The competition takes place February 4-6, 2022 and invites university students and young professionals with a passion for solving real-world problems using their own ideas and technical ingenuity.

The Sustainathon aligns to COP26 and the European Green Deal, encouraging the community to tackle climate change through innovation and technology. Participants will be asked to develop creative solutions that address serious environmental issues such as water wastage, pharmaceutical waste, infiltration of microplastics and the impact on pollinators.

An ecosystem of influential partners across academia, government, start-ups, and enterprise technology companies will select and mentor up to three winners as they ideate and incubate their solutions over a seven-month period, utilizing the TCS Accelerator Program. The program will be held at TCS Pace Port™ Amsterdam – part of a global network of digital innovation hubs. The teams will receive dedicated support from the Pace™ ecosystem, to leverage the right combination of technologies and tools needed to bring their concepts to life.

“We are committed to bringing together people, businesses, government organizations and industry leaders to create robust, ecosystems that enable a truly collaborative approach to building a greener, more sustainable Europe,” said Sapthagiri Chapalapalli, Head, TCS Europe. “The world is not short of good ideas. The difficulty is often getting the time and resources to bring a concept into realization. Our aim is for the Europe-wide Sustainathon to provide the perfect platform for great ideas to be heard, examined and quickly developed to make the world a better place.”

The European Sustainathon builds on TCS’ strong commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship. From its beginning in Singapore in 2020, the Sustainathon initiative is quickly expanding globally as TCS’ platform to facilitate sustainability ideation among students and wider communities.
