Technical University of Denmark: DTU Startup Day focuses on innovation

In DTU Skylab, investors and industry meet with more than 60 startups who show their prototypes and technologies and pitch their business ideas.

“For many students, it is the culmination – or at least an important milestone – in their efforts to transform a good idea into a thriving business. It is also the most difficult point in a startup’s life. Where they leave the security of the university’s incubator and have to stand on their own two feet, find new funds and earn their own money,” says DTU’s Executive Vice President for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Marianne Thellersen, who also emphasizes that this is only possible because DTU has a well-established innovation ecosystem.

Top-shelf startups
DTU Startup Days offers the best and most talented entrepreneurs and innovators from DTU’s ecosystem with startups from the early-stage programs Skylab Ignite and DTU X-Tech. There are also research-based spinouts and participants from Danish Tech Challenge, which is Denmark’s leading accelerator for hardware startups. DTU has one of the most well-developed ecosystems for innovation and entrepreneurship among technical universities in Europe.

“Innovation is valuable to society and the people who live in it. But innovation has no value if it is not applied and helps to create new products, technologies, or services. This is one of the reasons why we have established DTU Startup Day,” says Marianne Thellersen.
