Technical University of Munich: On course for a European engineering education
The EuroTeQ Engineering University: these are six leading European technical universities that have joined forces to shape the engineering education of the future. Denmark’s Technical University (DTU), École Polytechnique (L’X), Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), the Technical University in Prague (CTU) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) combine their strengths to holistically educate the most talented students.
A truly European Campus
This involves the latest technologies, social responsibility and genuine European mobility – in more ways than one: as part of the EuroTech Universities Alliance, EuroTeQ’s goal is to form a kind of inter-university campus without a fixed location. This is where the research agenda is developed and advanced. This is where interested parties from companies, associations and institutions can gain further qualifications. And this is where students, trainees in technology-related occupational fields, and stakeholders from society and industry will come together to develop concrete approaches to solving current problems.

At the center, however, is the wide range of joint courses with customizable curricula and new digital formats open to students from the partner universities.
The courses offered here cover a spectrum as diverse as the engineering fields of work of the future – from sustainability to entrepreneurship to language skills. For example, Prof. Dr. Michael Zäh and Dr. Susanne Vernim offer an “Introduction to Sustainable Production”, together with DTU, associated partner BMW and UnternehmerTUM, Prof. Dr. Peter Mayr ventures an outlook on “Additive Manufacturing of the Future”, Prof. Dr. Magnus Fröhling examines the possibilities of a circular economy under the title “Loop: Approaches, Theories and Practice of the Circular Economy” , the Ecole Polytechnique offers an insight into the development “From the Internet to the IoT: Fundamentals of Modern Computer Networking” with Thomas Heide Clausen and at TalTech students can attend an online course on the basics and use cases of Intellectual Property Law with Pawan Dutt. In total, more than 50 courses and seminars are available from the start.
Online-Event on 7 July
What is the unifying element of such diverse offerings and what goals and values are at the heart of the EuroTeQ initiative? This is what a top-class panel will be discussing at the online event “Educating responsible professionals in Europe” on 7 July 2021.
It goes without saying that the close interlinking of scientific training with the practical application of knowledge is of outstanding importance. And so it is only logical that the panel is equally staffed with outstanding minds from both science and business.
First, TUM’s President Thomas F. Hofmann will present the vision and mission of the EuroTeQ initiative, before Isabelle Reymen, Director of the Innovation Space at the TU/e, and Klaus Köhler, Senior Vice President Talent, Transformation Management at the BMW Group, will take a look at the potential of and requirements for European engineering education in their key notes. They will be joined in the subsequent discussion by Nicolas Termote, a student of microengineering at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, and Sofie Berglykke Aagaard and Kathrine Jerl Jensen, founders of the Danish e-learning and analytics start-up Incept Sustainability, which is dedicated to furthering education in sustainability.
