Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest (TUS) strengthens education ties with India, signs MoU with Vishwakarma Institutes of Pune
The Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest (TUS), joined hands with the Vishwakarma Institutes of Pune to provide quality learning opportunities for their students and the community at large. The partnership shall also promote academic research between the two institutes.
The MoU signed by Mr. Donnacha McNamara, Vice President International, TUS, and Mr. Bharat Agarwal, Managing Trustee, Vishwakarma Institutes will be applicable to the institutes run by Basilal Ramnath Agarwal Charitable Trust of Pune as well. This mission will have at its forefront an understanding that supports training in research, and community outreach. Moreover, the association marks a step towards bilateral educational collaborations in the IT and engineering space – avenues both countries specialize in, among others.
Shedding light on the university’s vision, Mr. Donnacha McNamara said, “Intra-institute partnerships are a key element of TUS’s internationalization objectives. This signing with Vishwakarma Institutes is an exciting launchpad for further collaboration in various arenas including mobility of staff, students, and researchers. We look forward to cooperation and development with the team at Vishwakarma Institutes to further the internationalization objectives for both institutes.”
As a part of the newly signed agreement, both the institutes will explore mutually beneficial forms of cooperation which include study tours, exchange of students and academic personnel, joint degree and summer school programs, cooperative R&D activities, design of courses, symposia, and academic programs. Furthermore, the two institutes will collaborate on research activities and exchange of academic/scientific material or publications.
Commenting on this partnership, Mr. Bharat Agarwal said, “We have a responsibility to give all kinds of experience and exposure to our students at VIIT. The association with TUS would enable our students to pursue internships and post-graduate programs at TUS which would benefit them.”
Supporting the signing of the MoU, Ms. Anita Kelly, Consul General of Ireland said, “The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and the wider association between Vishwakarma Institutes and the Technological University of the Shannon is a very positive step. It will benefit students and faculty in India and in Ireland, and will strengthen cultural, academic, and commercial ties between our two countries and our peoples. The Consulate General of Ireland in Mumbai is pleased to support this initiative and we look forward to assisting both institutes as their relationship grows and flourishes.”
India and Ireland have established significant educational ties over the past few years. In fact, Irish higher educational institutions attract over 5000 students every year. This association between TUS and Vishwakarma Institutes marks a milestone that signifies India’s growth in the international higher education market.
