Teejan Bai’s Pandavani steals the show at NIT Rourkela SPIC MACAY
Rourkela: The Student Activity Centre (Sac) of National Institute of Technology(NIT) Rourkela organized ”SPIC MACAY” an event to promote intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage. Padma Vibhushan Teejan Bai graced the occasion and mesmerized the audience by her performance. The world famous Pandavani artist with her team performed the stories of Pandavas, the legendary brothers in Mahabharat. She involved in enacting and singing with instrumental accompaniment an ektara as she performed Draupadi cheerharan, Dushasana Vadh, and Mahabharat Yudh, between Bhishma and Arjun.
Inaugurating the event she expressed a deep sense of gratitude to NIT Rourkela for organizing such a programme. She said, ” I’m overwhelmed by the love and respect I received here. I have been to Rourkela earlier but performing in front of students is a completely different experience” told the Padma Vibhushan awardee artist.
The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) is a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture; it is a movement with chapters in over 300 towns all over the world. The programme was successfully organized in the leadership of professor in charge of ”SPIC MACAY” Dr. Smeeta Mohanty. Director Incharge Professor Japesh Bera, Registrar In charge Professor Saroj Kumar Patel, Dean student welfare Professor Simanchal Panigrahi, President of SAC Professor Snehashish Chakraberty along with staffs and students were present in the occasion.
