Telangana Governor lauds Autism Awareness event held in Hyderabad
Hyderabad : An extraordinary event, “Spectrum Sparkle – Bridging Hearts Showcasing Stars,” unfolded at Shilpa Kala Vedika with a resounding message of autism awareness and building a more inclusive society. The event brought together a diverse audience, experts, and individuals from all walks of life to celebrate the strength of human diversity.
The Honourable Governor of Telangana, Dr. Smt Tamilisai Soundararajan, graced the event as the Chief Guest and delivered an inspiring address. In her words, “I stand before you with great pleasure and immense admiration as we gather here today for an event that is not just an event, but a profound journey into the world of compassion, understanding, and the celebration of human diversity.”
The event owes its existence to the relentless efforts of the NGO Marham Resonating Resilience, founded by Ms. Nabat Lakhani. Her vision and dedication to creating a more inclusive society led to this remarkable gathering.
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a complex condition that affects individuals in diverse ways. The need for awareness about autism is crucial as it facilitates early intervention, encourages inclusive education and employment opportunities, reduces stigma, and provides support for individuals and their families.
Dr. Nabat Lakhani, founder of Marham – Resonating Resilience, shared the inspiring story of how this event was conceptualized. The highlight of the event was the screening of the first-ever short film on autism awareness, “Gunjaaish,” where the actors themselves are on the spectrum. This ground-breaking film showcased the journey of struggle and success of children on the spectrum and their families. As a gesture of recognition and motivated, the cast and crew were felicitated by the Famous Indian music director RP Patnaik. His presence was a catalyst especially for the autistic children to be inspired and pursue their talents.
The event also featured a panel discussion with experts from various segments, including psychologists, psychiatrists, teachers, parents, and therapists. They explored ways to raise awareness and discussed potential solutions for individuals on the spectrum. Eminent people from Indian academy of psychiatry, IMH, paediatricians and other government institutions like NIEPID participated in the event
The event concluded with a heart-warming moment as children on the spectrum were honoured for their exceptional talents. They were felicitated by the famous Indian music director and singer, RP Patnaik.
