Texas A&M: Texas A&M Named 20-Year Top Producer Of Gilman Scholars
Texas A&M University has been recognized by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for being a top 20 producer of Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship recipients among large institutions.
Throughout its 20-year history, the Department of State’s Gilman Program has reshaped study abroad to make it more accessible and inclusive for American students. These scholarships are awarded to outstanding undergraduate students who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints. Deputy Secretary of State Ethan Rosenzweig made the announcement during Diversity Abroad’s Global Inclusion Conference in Atlanta, Ga., this week.
Texas A&M ranked 16th among all institutions with an enrollment of more than 15,000 students. Since 2001, 258 students from Texas A&M have received Gilman awards. During the 2020-21 academic year, 21 Texas A&M students were selected with awards totaling $86,500.
“The Gilman application process is not an easy one. I am beyond impressed with the number of Texas A&M students who have applied for and received this prestigious award,” said Holly Hudson, executive director for Education Abroad. “Our staff, LAUNCH, and colleagues across campus have put in a lot of work to advise, support and coach our student applicants through the process.”
Based on 20 years of data, the top 20 institutions in four categories were honored: small, medium, and large institutions, as well as associate-awarding institutions. Since the program’s inception in 2001, more than 34.000 Gilman Scholars from all U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and other U.S. territories have studied or interned in more than 155 countries around the globe.

About the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. The program particularly focuses on supporting first-generation college students, students in the STEM fields, ethnic and racial minority students, students with disabilities, students who are veterans, students attending community colleges and minority-serving institutions, and other populations underrepresented in study abroad. The program also aims to encourage students to study and intern in a diverse array of countries or areas and world regions.
