Texas A&M: Texas A&M To Host 15th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast Virtually Jan. 26
Texas A&M University and the MSC Carter G. Woodson Black Awareness Committee (MSC WBAC) will present the 15th Annual Martin Luther King Jr Breakfast on Jan. 26 from 9 to 11 a.m.
The event will be livestreamed on the MSC WBAC website. The in-person event at the MSC Bethancourt Ballroom is open only to current ticket holders; ticket sales were closed early to allow for increased social distancing.
The event will feature a conversation with Molefi Kete Asante, founder of the Afrocentrism movement, moderated by Lt. Col. Stephen G. Ruth ’92.
The students of MSC WBAC lead the effort to recruit a different keynote speaker each year for the breakfast. Past speakers have included educator and activist Jane Elliott and activist Ruby Bridges, the first Black child to integrate an elementary school in the South.
“Texas A&M, and the nation as a whole, is slowly moving towards what I think Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s dream was,” said Christiana Salone ’22, vice chair of recruitment retention for the MSC WBAC. “However, there is still a lot to be done in this country and at this university. I think that it’s important that we both honor the man and actively work towards the dream.”
MSC WBAC enhances the understanding of the culture, contributions and impact on society of people of African descent by providing educational and community-building programs and experiences for the Texas A&M University communities.
