TGSB school students tie rakhi to trees as a part of “Save trees, Save Bengaluru” campaign

Bengaluru  : With Bengaluru ‘s tree cover fast depleting in the name of development, school students of The Green School Bangalore (TGSB) located in Muthasandra in Varthur, carried out a heart-rending gesture on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan today.

Students crafted colourful hand-made rakhis and as a symbolic gesture they tied them to the trees around their school hugging the trees as a part of “Save trees, Save Bengaluru” Campaign.

“Our art and crafts teacher guided us to create beautiful, big rakhis from recycled paper and waste. We used pista shells, pencil shavings, old fabric and corn cobs to create the rakhis,” said an excited Aadhya Urs, student of grade 6 at TGSB

Students along with their faculty and principal tied rakhis to over 100 trees in the area. They also visited the Muthasandra Government Hospital and the Panchayat office and tied rakhis to the wardens as a mark of respect for the selfless service being rendered by them.

“The Green School Bangalore is a progressive SDG school committed to promoting harmony and environmental awareness. Through this unique Raksha Bandhan event, we are creating awareness about protecting the tree cover of our city,” apprised Usha Iyer, Founder & Principal of The Green School Bangalore, one of India’s first zero carbon school.

Along with the Sampige Seed Ball foundation, a promise was also made on that day to protect Bengaluru’s trees. About five thousand seeds will be available. A school is implementing an environmental awareness program for the first time. The seeds for the drive are guava, papaya, black ebony, tamarind, bamboo, and neem. Parents are grateful and commended for spreading the word about their specific apartments and neighbourhoods.
