Thapar University in QS BRICS rankings 2018

· 3rd among private varsities ranked in India

· 137th position out of 300 universities in BRICS

New Delhi: Thapar University is ranked high, at number 3 among private universities, with BITS Pilani leading this ranking. It is at the 137th position among 300 institutions from 5 countries in the BRICS region. The rankings were compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds using eight different indicators including academic reputation, employer reputation, the proportion of staff with a PhD, faculty/student ratio, research publications and citation rates and proportion of international faculty and students. The ranking provides insights into the relative strengths and weaknesses of leading institutions.

Thapar University is listed among the top 5 private varsities in India by QS BRICS rankings. Recently, Thapar University was also ranked at 210 by QS Asia University Rankings 2018 and in 801-1000 bracket worldwide in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking 2018. This propels Thapar University into the international, regional as well as BRICs league of leading universities.

“Our universities are producing quality work,” said UGC chairman Dr Ved Singh Chauhan during the felicitation ceremony where the top ten private and public institutions were commended. Chauhan added, “The role of the rankings, in helping students to get to know the institutions they choose, cannot be negated.”

Thapar University has partnerships with leading universities of the world including a deep partnership with Trinity College Dublin for complete contemporization. Thapar University also has a comprehensive institutional agreement with Tel Aviv University, Israel. Director Prof Gopalan said that the relationships that Thapar University has forged in the last four years have immensely benefited the university leading to continuous upgradation in infrastructure, best practices and processes and simultaneous updation of knowledge of faculty and staff.
