Mumbai: The Aditya Birla Integrated School (TABIS), which specializes in education for students with learning disabilities hosted an online panel discussion on the theme #ICanSucceed moderated by Ms. Piya Marker, Director – Head of School, The Aditya Birla Integrated School. The core objective of the panel discussion was to bust several myths associated with learning disabilities and to share success stories of students with learning disabilities. The event saw the participation of four panelists viz. Taira Khambatta, a parent, Ishika Bhatia, a student from TABIS, Aisha Bharmal, Head of Junior School, TABIS, Tara Contractor, an alumna from TABIS along with Bhaskar Bhate, Host from CARS24.

Through the panel discussion, Bhaskar, Ishika and Tara shared their stories of dealing with learning disabilities and how their school helped them to learn at their own pace. The panelists discussed how parents, family members, schools not only need to be sensitive towards children with learning disabilities but also empower them to be independent. The panelists further discussed the role of a school in helping a child with learning disabilities and spoke about the importance of a bespoke curriculum, individual attention, focus on mental wellbeing and most importantly – the absence of rote learning which helps students learn and aids their growth. A specialized school for students with learning disabilities shapes students into independent young adults working towards their passion and also spreading kindness along the way.

The one-hour-long virtual session #ICanSucceed delved into various aspects such as the need for parents to recognize learning disabilities in children and get them the necessary counseling and guidance, the need to have the right kind of teachers, the school environment and curriculum for children with learning disabilities to develop into them into individuals who can become creative, passionate, independent and most of all, kind. The discussion highlighted that children with learning disabilities can carve their own path with the appropriate guidance and support from family, school, and everyone around them.

Mrs. Neerja Birla, Founder, and Chairperson, Aditya Birla Education Trust, said “At The Aditya Birla Integrated School, our commitment is to empower students with learning disabilities and nurture them so that they excel in their careers and professional journeys. Our mission is to provide a holistic and personalized environment that brings out the child’s true potential. With initiatives such as #ICanSucceed, we aim to educate parents about the right pedagogy to help their wards accomplish their dreams. TABIS will continue its journey of busting common myths and mental barriers for students to succeed and achieve their career goals in life.”

Ms. Piya Marker, Director – Head of School, The Aditya Birla Integrated School, said “In today’s challenging times, there is a need for educating not only teachers but also parents and family to help motivate their kids with learning disabilities. It is important that parents play a key role in molding children while they are at home, which includes boosting their morale and celebrating their smaller successes which goes a long way in helping them accomplish successful careers.”
