The BEEP Media Campaign Selected to Attend the 4th ASEF Young Leaders Summit

A media campaign to promote UNESCO’s Basic Education Equivalency Programme (BEEP) will be showcased at the upcoming Asia-Europe Foundation Young Leaders Summit (ASEFYLS) virtually across Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) countries. “The BEEP Media Campaign” is the brainchild of Cambodian youth, Chandara Tith, 33 years old, a media practitioner and lecturer at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. In the campaign, Chandara invites media geeks, content creators, graphic designers and filmmakers, as well as educators and youth who are passionate about education to get involved with BEEP.

BEEP was officially launched by UNESCO in 2018 in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) and the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MoLVT) to provide flexible alternative education to out-of-school youth to complete lower secondary/basic education equivalent to grade 9. The basic education qualification provided upon completion of the programme allows graduates to enroll in TVET or technical high schools and ultimately, pursue decent employment opportunities. The intervention is part of the joint programme on Decent Employment for Youth (DEY Phase-II) in Cambodia, which is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Chandara’s project, “The BEEP Media Campaign” is a promotion and outreach activity that aims to attract drop-out-school youth in Cambodia to register for BEEP. Participants will support the development of the campaign throughout all stages, from the identification of the target group, the development of the campaign strategy and content to the production of multimedia materials. Being one of the 15 finalists for ASEFYLS, Chandara will receive capacity building trainings and other technical support to execute his campaign.

The ASEFYLS is a platform that connects young people with the Heads of States and Governments of 51 Asian and European countries and the political Leaders of the EU and the ASEAN Secretariat. Held biennially as the official youth event in support of ASEM Summits, the ASEFYLS is a thought and action arena for young people with a 360° approach on leadership development and community engagement: from a self, team and societal perspective.
