The Design Village Organized “From Waste to Wonder” Exhibition in Collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
The Design Village organized an exhibition “From Waste to Wonder,” in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The exhibition aimed to challenge and inspire students to embrace sustainability. The students were tasked with redesigning Dutch souvenirs and creating collectibles, memorabilia, and polaroids by fusing modern, and sustainable perspectives into them.
The students were divided into 5 groups. Group 1’s World in Orange celebrates Dutch diversity through iconic symbols like windmills and tulips, weaving inclusive narratives. Group 2’s Als Water emphasizes adaptability and resilience by exploring the Dutch relationship with water and wind. Group 3’s The Stitched enhances sensory awareness with texture-rich, sustainable products inspired by Indian and Dutch handicrafts. Group 4’s Metamorphosis highlights transformation and inclusivity through repurposed materials. Group 5’s Transfiguration features paper-based calendars that reflect Dutch heritage, creativity, and adaptability.
Mudita Pasari, Academic Dean, at TDV, said ““From Waste to Wonder” is not just an exhibition but a call to action. It invites us all to reconsider how we interact with our environment and to embrace a more sustainable way of living. As the exhibition runs its course, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and The Design Village hope to inspire many more to join this movement towards a greener, more sustainable future.”
Ambassador Marisa Gerards welcomed guests and emphasized the importance of reevaluating our social and environmental footprints, demonstrating the Embassy’s commitment to environmental stewardship. She remarked, “Regenerative ecosystems pave the way for a sustained tomorrow,” stressing the need for policymakers, thinkers, learners, and tinkerers to collaborate to reduce their collective impact on the world.
Attendees explored a diverse range of exhibits showcasing the potential of upcycling and innovative design. Each piece tells a story of transformation, turning waste materials into objects of wonder. The collection invites viewers to marvel at the creativity and ingenuity behind each item while reflecting on the deeper narrative of sustainability and responsible consumption.
