The Gera School student strength expected to touch 240 in 2020-21
Panaji: The Gera School (TGS) at Kadamba Plateau saw a quantum jump in its student strength which increased from 24 in first academic year of 2017 – 2018 to 120 in the current year 2019 – 2020. As the school enters the third year of operation, the number is expected to touch 240 in the next academic year 2020-21. TGS is recognised by the Cambridge Board, which is accepted nationally as well as internationally.
Rohit Gera, Managing Director, Gera Developments and Chairman Advisory Committee, The Gera School said, “I am delighted by the school’s progress over the last two years and the whole hearted acceptance by the parents and students. This is a huge number for us and we are happy with it.”
The school boasts of infrastructure with over four-acre campus and will soon open a state-of-the-art auditorium which is first-of-it’s-kind for a school in Goa.
Mr. Gera further added that, “However, one of the biggest challenges is lack of enough trained teachers in the Cambridge teaching style in Goa. They are mostly working in schools affiliated to State Board, ICSE or CBSE but the curriculum of these Boards is classroom oriented, rigid and regimented. Cambridge Board teaching is more application oriented. For this, we will hire 13 new teachers having five to seven years of teaching experience in Cambridge Board schools.”
Every single lesson plan for each class is made in advance, which includes the expected outcome of this plan and is submitted to the principal.
“Quality delivery is given high importance at TGS. The principal and coordinator conduct classroom observations to audit the teaching methodology. In addition, TGS has an external auditor who assesses the classroom performance of the teachers and submits the report to the trustees,” TGS Principal Carol Joseph said.
“Apart from academics, we give lot of importance to extra-curricular activities including drama, music, art, gymnastics, Martial Arts amongst others,” the Principal added.
The Gera School offers an international curriculum of high-standards while drawing inspiration from the rich experiences that life in India provides. The academic curriculum is designed to foster a sense of responsibility, critical thinking and reasoning, global awareness and civic engagement among the students, thus preparing them to be true citizens of the 21st century. The teaching is activity and application-based, experiential, interactive, and differentiated (to cater to the different needs of learners).
The Gera School recognizes that academic proficiency alone is not enough. A school must prepare children for a world that is constantly changing. What will ensure success are excellent communication skills, collaborative skills and attributes of creativity and innovativeness, resilience and perseverance. It is to these ends that TGS will work so that every child is led towards self-actualization with a variety of challenging but enjoyable learning experiences in and out of the classroom.
Furthermore, parents of students studying in TGS aspiring to send their children abroad will certainly benefit.
