The inaugural round of joint-research proposals at New Zealand Centre at IIT Delhi announced

National, 21 July 2022: Education New Zealand has announced the inaugural finalists of joint-research projects as part of the New Zealand Centre at IIT Delhi. The selected projects aim towards strengthening the research connections between both countries. A total of 10 joint-projects will be awarded a joint funding of USD 100,000 by New Zealand universities and IIT Delhi.

Speaking at the event organised at the New Zealand High Commission announcing the projects, Education New Zealand spokesperson Mr Ben Burrowes, Regional Director Asia said, “New Zealand and India hold strong education ties and the New Zealand Centre symbolises our initiatives to promote and encourage interdisciplinary education and research initiatives. Opening an avenue to develop collaborative activities, this collaboration paves a way for sustainable development programmes with impactful research outcomes. This is also a platform to use research talent to its fullest potential and to assemble great intellect to address pressing issues.”

Also present at the event, Prof. Naveen Garg, Dean Alumni Affairs and International Programmes at IIT Delhi said, “IIT Delhi is very excited with the quality of projects selected in the first round of the “New Zealand Centre seed fund” programme. We expect these projects to build strong research collaborations between faculty colleagues at the two ends and lead to an engaging set of activities at the New Zealand centre at IITD.”

The New Zealand Centre at IIT Delhi is deemed to be a focal point of academic activity for all eight New Zealand Universities and IIT Delhi. This initiative will promote relationships of understanding and cooperation across diverse fields of academic and other sector engagement between New Zealand and India. Further, it provides a forum for India-New Zealand dialogue among different sectors (government, academia, and business) in education, cultural exchange and cooperation, economic transformation, innovation and national growth strategies, and other topics of mutual interest.
