The Oberoi Group opened online applications for selection of students for its Systematic Training and Education Programme or STEP

New Delhi: The Oberoi Group has opened online applications for selection of students for its ‘Systematic Training and Education Programme’ or ‘STEP’.

The three year programme designed for students completing high school, combines practical on-the-job training with study towards a Bachelor of Tourism Studies Degree from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Trainees are provided with assistance in the form of study materials and dedicated time to prepare for the exams for their undergraduate degree.

In keeping with The Oberoi Group’s philosophy of investing in its people, The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development invests time, effort and money over the three year under graduate Programme. The investment includes all expenses on IGNOU course fees and books, accommodation and duty meals, medical insurance and uniforms. Besides not charging a fee, selected candidates are paid a monthly allowance over the three-year period.

Now in its thirteenth year, The Oberoi Group’s STEP programme offers students the opportunity to acquire all round and specialized skills and knowledge in all departments of a hotel. The Kitchen Operations Programme includes training in the Western and Indian kitchens besides orientation in specialized sections such as bakery, pastry and the cold kitchen. The Hotel Operations Programme consists of two streams: Front Office / Food and Beverage Service focus and Housekeeping focus.

On completing the programme and subject to vacancies, the STEP graduates may join The Oberoi Group as Operations Assistants. Alternately, STEP graduates are also eligible to compete for admission to The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development’s two year postgraduate management programmes, leading to an executive position with The Oberoi Group.

Commenting on the STEP programme, Ms. Huvida Marshall, Dean and Senior Vice President, The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development, said, “The STEP programme was launched in 2004 with the aim to provide young aspirants wishing to make a career in hospitality, the opportunity to train at some of the best hotels in the world under the guidance of professional hoteliers. During the programme, a trainee is placed at one of our hotels, learns the various aspects of hotel operations and is thus able to gain valuable experience besides honing the attitude, skills and knowledge required by the industry.”

Details of the course:

Admission to the STEP programme is open until 15th April, 2017. The programme commences in August 2017.

Eligibility criteria for candidates are as follows:

·      Age: The candidate should be above 18 years and below 20 years of age, as on 15th August of the year of the commencement of the programme.

·      Class XII – overall pass: The candidate should have attained a clear pass in class XII as on 1st July of the year of the commencement of the programme, from a board recognized by the Indira Gandhi National Open University, India.

·      Class X – marks in English

a) For Hotel Operations Programme (Front Office / Food and Beverage Service focus) and Kitchen Operations Programme

The candidate should have obtained 61% marks or above, in English in class X. The equivalent in CBSE is a B2 grade or a 7 grade point.

b) For Hotel Operations Programme (Housekeeping focus)

The candidate should have obtained 51% marks or above, in English in class X. The equivalent in CBSE is a C1 grade or a 6 grade point.

The programme equips trainees to work in deluxe and first class hotels and resorts. The students would further benefit from the expertise of the academic faculty at The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development which includes world class educationists and hospitality professionals.
