The Tsinghua – USTC Bilateral Academic Seminar on Chemistry and Materials Science Successfully Held

On March, 26th, the Tsinghua – USTC Bilateral Academic Seminar on Chemical Materials, organized by the School of Chemistry and Materials Science (SCMS) of USTC, was successfully held in the conference room of Material Science Research Building in USTC.

Nine experts and scholars from Tsinghua University, including Academician LI Jinghong, Prof. WANG Xun, Prof. WANG Quanming, and more than 40 teachers and students from SCMS participated in the conference.

Prof. LIU Shiyong, Executive Dean of SCMS, extended a warm welcome to the visit of experts from Tsinghua. LI Jinghong delivered a speech, acclaiming USTC for its interdisciplinary characteristics and its freedom and inclusiveness in academy. He believed that this visit is a good opportunity for mutual learning. Then, Prof. WANG Quanming, Deputy Director of the Department of Chemistry of Tsinghua University, introduced the background of the conference, and the friendly exchanges between Tsinghua and USTC, encouraging every participant to play an active role in the discussion.

Prof. WANG Xun, Prof. ZHANG Yingying and many other experts delivered 16 wonderful presentations, during which they had in-depth exchanges and discussions on sub-nano scale materials, single-atom catalysis, carbon-based materials, fuel cells, asymmetric catalysis, biochemical synthesis and analysis, etc. Teachers and students were all actively involved in this lively and vigorous meeting.

The event is a resounding success. Through the introduction and discussion of the frontier researches, it not only enhances the cooperation in chemistry and materials science between the two universities, but also benefits the sustainable development of the subject on both sides.
