The XLRI Odyssey: Navigating through the 75 years legacy

 The XLRI Odyssey – Navigating through the 75 years legacy, that was scheduled for June 14-15 at the XLRI Jamshedpur Campus, paid homage to the remarkable journey and substantial contributions of XLRI’s esteemed former colleagues, who were fundamental to the XLRI’s evolution. This event was meticulously crafted to celebrate the dedication, excellence, and shared vision of these individuals, whose persistent efforts profoundly shaped XLRI – Xavier School of Management into a beacon of academic distinction.

The 2-day reunion event The XLRI Odyssey offered a platform to 45 of XLRI’s revered former colleagues including professors, administrative staff, and deans to share their invaluable experiences and insights, which were crucial in molding XLRI into the esteemed institution it became.

On June 15, the entire XLRI fraternity gathered at the Tata Auditorium alongside 45 of XLRI’s revered former colleagues to celebrate the 75-year legacy of XLRI Jamshedpur. Present at the momentous occasion were T V Narendran, Chairman of XLRI Jamshedpur, Fr S George S.J. – Director, Dr. Sanjay Patro – Dean (Academics), Fr Donald D’Silva S.J. – Dean (Administration & Finance), Mr. Ranaveer Sinha – President of the Alumni Association, and other professors along with staff members and students.

Dr Sanjay Patro- Dean (Academics) introduced the 45 esteemed guests to the audiences and the professors honoured them with token of appreciations.

“Institutions like XLRI Jamshedpur are built on strong values, and it is always worth celebrating and showing appreciation of the work people have done. The values of XLRI and the emotional connect continues to live beyond your journey at XLRI. On behalf of the Board of XLRI, I extend a heartfelt thanks to all the guests of today’s event for everything that you’ve done for XLRI Jamshedpur”, said   T V Narendran, Chairman, XLRI Jamshedpur.

Fr Donald D’Silva S.J. – Dean (Administration & Finance), XLRI Jamshedpur introduced the audience to the rich history of XLRI and said, “There’s a strong emotional connect between XLRI and those who’ve worked here. This program is truly special; someone mentioned it’s unprecedented among institutions, and XLRI has made it happen. As we celebrate our Platinum Jubilee, we reflect on every person and milestone, from students to alumni, stakeholders, and well-wishers. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of XLRI; the Jamshedpur Jesuit society has supported us from the start.”

Following the event, there was a panel discussion titled Memories in Dreams, moderated by Prof. Sunil Kumar Sarangi from XLRI Jamshedpur. The panel featured 6 former professors who shared their memories of XLRI, provided academic advice to the current batch of students, reminisced about their days at the institute, and discussed how XLRI has shaped their lives.

“My current team includes 3 XLRI students. XLRI stays with you — even after you leave the campus, you’ll encounter XLRI students everywhere you go”, said Prof. Reshmi Mitra (1988 – 2008).

Prof. Renu Mattoo (1977 – 1994) mentioned “I always proudly mention that I’ve done my MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur and whenever I travel abroad, I share stories of XLRI. This place holds a special place in my heart, and I take great pride in sharing its legacy with others. I belong to XLRI and XLRI belongs to me. The memories and dreams we cherish from our time here are incredibly personal and meaningful.”

Prof. Jeetu Singh highlighted the infrastructural development of the institute. Prof. ISF Irudayaraj, discussed about how XLRI has taught him to love others and take risks in life. The panel discussion also highlighted the differentiating factor of XLRI Jamshedpur i.e. Diversity, Inclusion and Empowerment.

Speaking on the occasion, Ronald D’Costa – President of XLRI Jamshedpur Chapter (XLRI Alumnus PGDBM Batch 1965-68) said, “You can take somebody out of XLRI, but you can’t take XLRI out of you.”

Prof. Smitu Malhotra, from XLRI Jamshedpur, delivered the vote of thanks. The event was not just a reflection on XLRI’s storied past but also served as an inspiration for current and future members of the XL family to uphold and perpetuate the legacy of XLRI. As a celebration of XLRI’s enduring spirit and rich heritage, the event reaffirmed the unbreakable bonds akin to family ties within the XLRI community.
