Third edition of Mitsubishi Electric Cup Opens for registration

Gurgaon: India’s biggest national-level automation competition for students is back with its third edition. Mitsubishi Electric India, a leading player in Factory Automation, has announced that registrations are now open for the Mitsubishi Electric Cup (ME Cup) which will be held again this year after extremely successful previous versions in the last two years.
Students can register online at http://www.mitsubishielectric.in/fa/mecup/. The last date for online registrations and submission of proposal is September 1, 2017. A maximum of two teams per institute can register for the event.
Like the previous two years, this year as well ME Cup has an intrinsic theme that will serve as a base for participants to create their models. The theme for this year is ‘Innovative Solutions for Smart Manufacturing’ under which students will be required to independently design and produce a complete set of devices and models by using Mitsubishi Electric factory automation products.
The automation competition has carved a niche for itself as a testing ground for budding engineers to collaborate, innovate and excel in the field of automation. After its first edition in 2016, the finale of its second edition was held this year in February and received an overwhelming response. Engineering colleges and technical institutions from different states including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat and Karnataka participated in the event. The winner team ‘Team Innovators’ from Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering Collage, Ghaziabad received prizes worth of Rs 1 lakh. The second place was taken by team ‘Con-Sol-E’ from Institute of Technology, Nirma University, Ahmedabad who took home prizes worth Rs 75,000 and Team ‘The Innovators’ from ISTC, Chandigarh secured the third spot receiving prizes worth Rs 50,000.
This year, the third edition of the ME Cup too invites participation and entries from technical institutions across the country. Students are required to integrate Mitsubishi Electric’s factory automation products (including PLC, servo, inverter and human-machine interface, etc.), build up and achieve an analogous system of smart manufacturing.
The ME Cup’s eminent panel comprising of industry experts will then begin by shortlisting 35 teams based on initial entries and the Mitsubishi Electric FA hardware will be dispatched to these teams. These teams will be required to prepare working models of various industrial manufacturing processes, energy saving solutions, smart solutions for building automation etc. Teams will be provided with technical support, training and FA equipment to make the model, on a returnable basis by Mitsubishi Electric India. Additionally, each team will be given a financial support of Rs 7000 upon successful participation at final event of ME Cup 2018 and their adherence to requisite skillset for achievement.
The ME Cup holds its core aim to provide an opportunity to budding engineers to improve their ability for engineering applications, stimulate their curiosity in learning and build an innovation capacity and team spirit in them. ME Cup in past two years has initiated a seminally process to encourage the skills of students related to manufacturing and commissioning by enabling an exchange and cooperation between university and industry experts. All the participants will be given certificates of participation and this year, the winning team will get a prize worth of 1 lakh. The runner up team will be awarded prize worth of Rs 75,000 while the team winning the third spot will be given prize worth of Rs 50,000 and many more prizes in different categories.

Through this competition, since the past two years, we have been providing a platform to engineering students to display their innovation capabilities and build advanced models by using our technical expertise and FA systems. This year’s theme ‘Innovative Solutions for Smart Manufacturing’ is in tandem with our motto to support the dissemination of new knowledge and give a chance for new ideas to come up in the manufacturing domain.”
Dr. Dipak M. Adhyaru, Head of Department, Instrumentation and Control, Institute of Technology, Nirma University also the Programme Chair of MECUP 2018, said that “These are very interesting times where not only theoretical solutions are envisaged, but they are also practically realized.
