Thousands of students to compete in 19th Inter Amity Institutions Sports Meet ‘Sangathan 2017’ at Amity
New Delhi: 19th Inter Amity Institutions Sports Meet ‘Sangathan 2017’ – an annual, two-month long Sports Event organized to inculcate the values associated with Sports such as team spirit, camaraderie, healthy competition, perseverance, hard work, dedication etc and also to commemorate the celebrations of Founder’s Day, commenced today at University Campus, Sector 125 Noida.
During 2 months, over 10,000 students from all Amity Universities and campuses located in India & abroad would participate in over 25 Sports Events including Hockey, Cricket, Football, Tennis, Swimming, Squash amongst others in respective campuses. The faculty and staff members also participate in various sports events including shooting, archery, racing, chess etc. during Sangathan.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ‘Sangathan Mashaal’ by Dr. (Mrs.) Balvinder Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh in the presence of Directors/HoDs and senior officials of Amity.
The Mashaal was carried to various campuses of Amity from Sector-125 to Sector-44 and Greater Noida by the students of various institutions.
Declaring “Sangathan 2017” open, Dr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh said that there is no other University in the world that has such a huge gathering of motivated students and faculty members as Amity. He commended the commitment of HOIs, Faculty Members and staff of Amity who are dedicated towards a common vision to provide best experience to students. Dr. Chauhan opined that participation in sports activities are very important since every competition teaches valuable lessons that help the person to achieve success in both personal as well as professional lives.
The sight of ceremonial release of pigeons and balloons by Dr. Atul Chauhan, Mr. Ajay Chauhan, Trustee – RBEF, Mrs. Pooja Chauhan- Vice Chairperson, Amity Humanity Foundation, Mr. Ajit Chauhan Vice-Chairman, Amity Distance & Online Education, Mr. Abhay Chauhan, Mr. Anmol Chauhan, Maj.Gen K J Singh- Chief Advisor, Amity; Dr. Gurinder Singh, Group Vice Chancellor, Amity and Dr. (Mrs.) Balvinder Shukla – Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh was a treat to the eyes of everyone.
Dr. Atul Chauhan handed over the Sangathan Mashaal to the Sports Captains and winners of last year’s Sangathan who finally lit the Sangathan flame.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ajit Chauhan said that we are living in turbulent times with fierce competition everywhere so it is necessary for a person to be competitive. He further stressed that the learning during college can transform the life of a student and advised the students to make the most of this time by not only focusing on academic performance but also on extra curricular activities like sports. He pointed out that sports help to identify the strengths and weaknesses of a person. Mr. Chauhan averred that an opportunity doesn’t knock twice on the door; it only does once hence one must be prepared to embrace every opportunity.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Kalpana Sharma, Chairperson Organising Committee– Sangathan 2017 said that every year Sangathan is celebrated with great spirit since it brings all Amitians together with an aim to develop a bond of unity and foster the spirit of sportsmanship and other virtues associated with it. She further briefed about the genesis of Sanagthan. Dr. Sharma apprised that Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group has a vision of providing holistic groomingto every student by fostering competitive spirit and sportsmanship since both physical and mental well being are prerequisites for achieving success in a person’s life.
Sports Captains from various Institutions took Oath to participate in Sangathan with honesty, sportsmanship and team spirit.
The inauguration was followed by a friendly Football Match played between students of Amity School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences v/s Amity School of Engineering and Technology .
