TikTok launches #IAMLessPlastic campaign to support India Plog Run and encourage a plastic-free lifestyle

Hyderabad: On October 2, citizens across 50 cities in India will come together to do their bit in creating awareness about plastic pollution as part of the first ever India Plog Run 2019. To extend further support and mobilize more people to participate in this movement, TikTok, the world’s leading short video platform, has launched hashtag #IAmLessPlastic, an in-app challenge inviting users to join India’s biggest movement against plastic pollution.

Through short videos on TikTok, users can share how they can make their neighbourhood clean and free of plastic, in the most easy and unique way, with the larger TikTok community. Users are encouraged to share their ‘plogging’ videos as a mark of their participation in the event.

Commenting on the need to tie up with TikTok, Manish Michael, Chief Executive Officer at United Way India said, “In a very short span of time, TikTok has become the medium of choice for new India to creatively express themselves, cutting across all geographical boundaries. We are delighted to bring them on board as our community partners and fully believe that the partnership will go a long way in further promoting the run and spread the word about plastic waste management to the larger society.”

Nitin Saluja, Director Public Policy (India), TikTok added “This initiative provides a great opportunity for us to mobilize our ever-growing Indian community and inspire people and encourage them to lead a plastic free life. By being a virtual extension of the India Plog Run, we look forward to taking the plog run to newer heights and spread the message of plastic pollution awareness, far and wide.”

India Plog Run will be held on October 2, across 50 cities with 250K+ participants to commemorate 5 years of the Swacchh Bharat Abhiyaan.‘Plogging’ is a combination of jogging while picking up litter. It started as an organised activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries in 2018, following increased concern about plastic pollution. As a workout, it provides variation in body movements by adding bending, squatting and stretching to the main action of running, hiking, or walking.
