To Increase Testing Capacity Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU Gets another Covid-19 Testing Machine
Aligarh: To combat pandemic Covid-19 more effectively, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), AMU has purchased a real time RT-PCR Thermo Fisher machine for Rs 30 lakhs, and with the installation of a new machine the testing capacity has augmented considerably.
The Vice Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor today inaugurated the machine in presence of Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui, Principal, JNMC and Prof Haris M Khan, Medical Superintendent.
Prof Tariq Mansoor said it will strengthen our fight against novel coronavirus, as the tests are crucial to flatten the spread of the virus.
“Through QuantStudio 5 PCR, it is possible to detect the virus in a short period of time”, said Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui.
Now the university has three testing machines and to increase the capacity further, the university is buying an automated RNA Extract machine which will cost around 30 lakhs, said Prof Tariq Mansoor.
The university is making serious efforts to get the medical college converted in to level-3 Covid dedicated hospital. According to Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui the university nearly fulfils all the requirement as it has a separate Covid OT, Covid labour room, 100 beds and 10 ventilators and now the University is purchasing a separate dialysis machine.
The JNMC has so far tested 7920 samples from Aligarh, Mathura, Noida, Kasganj, Hathras, Bulandshahar, Agra, Rampur and Etah, out of which 195 samples have been found Corona positive, said Professor Haris M Khan, Nodal Officer and Chairman, Department of Microbiology, JNMC.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, a dedicated L2 Covid positive hospital, has witnessed remarkable recovery rate and six patients got full recovered and discharged during the last four days.
The medical college has set up a special covid ward to treat level two patients and it has become operational four week ago and in all eight patients discharged so far and seven patients are under treatment, said Professor Shahid Siddiqui.
Four batches comprises 12 doctors, 12 nurses, 8 attendants, and 8 cleaners fully equipped with PPEs, work round clock in the covid ward.
The Medical College has setup a central control room equipped in the telemedicine technology so that the consultants communicate with residents doctors and nursing staff in covid ward. The Medical College has consulted several committees that work round clock so that the task of patient management could be managed properly. Covid treatment team is headed by Professor Shahid Siddiqui and it includes Principal and CMS Prof. Shahid Ali Siddiqui, MS Prof. Haris M. Khan, Prof. Afzal Anees, Dr. Husainis Haider Mehdi, Dr. Obaid Ahmad Siddiqui, Dr. Fatima Khan, Dr. Asfia Sultan, Dr. SM Kamil Ashraf, Dr. Shaad Abqari, Dr. Abdul Waris, Dr. Zia Siddiqui.
According to Dr. Abdul Waris, Deputy Medical Superintendent 35 to 40 patients are being treated daily at Flu Clinic.
