Tokyo Institute of Technology: Science Techno students honored by Ota City Board of Education for long-term education efforts

Science Techno, an official Tokyo Tech student club, has received a certificate of appreciation from Tokyo’s Ota City Board of Education (BOE) for their long-term advancement of education activities in Ota City.

The club president Naoto Takemoto, a 2nd-year Systems and Control Engineering student, accepted the certificate on January 15 at Ota City’s monozukuri education and learning forum. The city’s BOE Superintendent Hitoshi Oguro visited the Science Techno booth to deliver the accolade personally.

Comments from Science Techno president
Naoto Takemoto
Since I joined Tokyo Tech in April 2020, the effects of COVID-19 have stopped me from participating in club activities as much as I would have liked. The number of events we have held has also decreased significantly. Despite this situation, I feel grateful that the activities of Science Techno have been recognized and commended in this way.

In 2021, we tried to conduct our activities online using Zoom, YouTube, and other methods, but there were many new things to learn and we were not without difficulties. These experiences made me realize once again that the activities of Science Techno are possible only because of the many people who request our presence at various locations, help us discover new participants and audiences, and support us in preparing venues and organizing events.

We have been able to hold some in-person events during the pandemic when the number of infections was low. Anyone can view videos of our science show, held in December 2021, and other activities on the official Tokyo Tech Science Techno channelouter (Japanese).

I am currently studying Systems and Control Engineering, and I will continue to devote myself to both academics and club activities. I look forward to your continued support for Science Techno.
